That was super! your mando sounds so FULL in that recording. Way better than my sketchy version too.

So sorry to hear about Arthur's passing. I sent him a CD some time ago and he responded by sending me a vintage publication of Dawg's solos transcribed. I'll have to dig that up to re-appreciate...
I'm glad I logged on and saw this post. Those look beautiful. I'd love to hear the Parlour King play.
Norwegian Wood in D is fun to play.
I also play a weird gypsy swing version of Eleanor Rigby that's pretty cool. I should do a video of that to share...
One From the Vault - Grateful Dead
I swapped my tenor over to GDAE too, and that instrument has a whole new life. I'm really enjoying playing it now, after years of intermittent interest with CGDA tuning. Welcome to the Cafe Tug!
Dude, you had a Gremlin that was still running in 1984?? that's noteworthy.
Exactly. You can't deny those inanimate object's ability to transport us to far off places, which is probably where...
If you're building new walls, I suggest using metal studs instead of wood studs. I think they're cheaper than wood now, and easier to work with (plus much less mess). Plus, they won't be ruined if...
I like that, thank you!
Hey Folks, Happy New Year.
I've got a '62 Harmony Tenor Guitar that I'd like to get some fret markers installed on the side of the neck / fretboard. Is there anyone near Rochester Hills that can...
Nice work! thanks for sharing

is it now? maybe you should lower the humidity in that room.
[rimshot] get it? (bad Dad joke)
Other than knowing almost nothing about bowlbacks... any mandolin that is structurally sound, plays well, and appeals to you is a steal at $125. Looks like some of those go for double that on the...
Sweet A5 you got there!
I've got a K & K twin, accompanied by the Pure Preamp and think it does just fine through a Fender Acoustisonic 30 amp. (I'm itching to trade the amp for a Fishman Loudbox...
Thanks for the advice everybody! After years of noodling aimlessly on CGDA, I decided to give octave mandolin a try. I just ordered 2 sets of the the John Pearse 450 set for my 60's Harmony archtop...
sweet! loved it
That > was pretty tight
Interesting. Were you using this same one? This is what I use and I'm interested why you like the Pickboy better?

I've got a K&K twin - and it works great with the K&K pre-amp. I know you'd rather not spend another $100, but adding that will save lots of hassle and be well worth it in the long run.
I play GHS LSB250 strings on my oval hole. I tried them one time and really liked the way they sound, play and last a long time.
I might try the nickel ones mentioned above next time based on all...
+1 for trying the pick samplers. You never know what you're going to like until you try them all
(spoiler: it probably won't be the $40 Blue Chip)
I missed it, but here's a clip from Billy's Facebook fan page:

Congrats on a decade of mandolin!
My suggestion is to take a mandolin themed vacation.
and to clarify: "new" mandolin really means "another" mandolin
I was quite relieved to read your anguish was choosing between oval and F holed mandolins, because my first impression of the subject line implied that you bought a banjo.
