    Re: OM/Mandocello Guitar conversions

On Eastman's mando family page (http://www.eastmanguitars.com/mdo-10/), is the MDO-10 an octave mandolin or a mandocello (or can it be used for either, depending on what string set is used)?

    Re: Electric octave mandocello

Made an electric mandocello from a First Act electric guitar! Pretty cool, and a nifty bargain!

Soames made the P90 mandolin p/u that I put on my "Poorman's EM-150". They do excellent work,...

    Re: Pickup for GM-6?

If you already own some kind of outboard preamp, get a pair of JJB contact p/us and install each one beneath each end of the bridge...sounds very natural and a very easy "mod".

    Edit: refer to post...

    True.
  6. Re: How long does it take you to restring a mandin?

Never timed myself, but I'd guess 10-15 minutes.

Was once timed restringing my 12-string, took 18 minutes...no idea why someone wanted to time me at it, though!

Re: What pre-amp would you recommend?

Prefer my Baggs Para Acoustic, but carry a Behringer ADI-21 (like you mentioned) as a spare, for open mics I host, or if a friend comes out to jam at the gig, and it's held up a lot longer than I...

    Re: Mixing string types

    116585

Used to use Zebras, but they're a hassle to get around here, don't last long (I'd get 3 weeks out of a set), and, worst of all, don't make a 12-string set, so I'd have to make up my own...

    Re: Small portable pa

Yorkville makes good stuff...Mackie used to be good, too, but, apparently, QC is not doing their job, judging from how much new Mackie gear gets sent back.

Not if you think in advance and have the right amount of power...in almost 40 years of earning my living as a troubadour, I've never found any venue that didn't have a house system if my rig wasn't...

Re: what is the best mobile to go amp?

Both the 15 watter (Taxi 15) and the 50 watter (Limo 50) are still available, the original 30 watter (Taxi 30) is discontinued...know nothing about the 15 watter, but the Limo 50 I use a great deal,...

Re: what is the best mobile to go amp?

See if you can find an older American made Crate Limo 50...of all the battery-powered "mini-PAs" out there, this is heads and shoulder above the more expensive ones, and the built-in battery is good...

Re: Buying Above Your Playing Ability?

A great instrument, set up correctly, will inspire you to practice/play more, which will translate into you getting good faster!

And, if you later lose interest, you'll be able to get most (or,...
  20. Re: Does a mando pick really make a difference?

Any pick that works for your guitar will work just as well for your mandolin...some folks use a different pick, but most of us use the same pick, not matter the instrument.

Re: Steve Martin Plays the Mandolin?

Never seen him play his Lloyd Loar F5, but as good as he is on guitar and banjo, I'd not be surprised that he can play it well.
