Hi all,
Firstly, thanks for all the brilliant information and advice you all shared in my other threads in the Builders' section. This forum is great.
Discussion of the possibly limited...
Cool. Good luck looking for yer friend.
Interesting. I reckon that's a great idea.
To be valid I personally think that the brands of instrument involved should not be specified beforehand, recording should be of professional quality and...
As a very happy Eastman owner, none of what has been posted in this thread bothered me. I added a post quite early on which may have sounded as if something had touched a nerve, but that was actually...
Yep, good luck to you, Jim.
Ah. See what you mean. Yeh, that'd be interesting.
I just wish I could play like Mr G, regardless of the label on the axe!
Nah, it was, and remains a, great thread.
I apologise for steering it wrong.
Gotta leave room for that unending Gibson/Loar hype. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
I just love it when my own satire comes back to bite me in the @ss... NOT!
Ooh, harsh... http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
I've read your earlier posts about Fullerton (as you know). They sound like a very good deal.
If they sound better with you on the end of one than an Eastman does with the Dawg on the end of it......
I just realised: the title of this thread sums up my life...
You too, my friend. Thanks for the reassurance. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
As the case itself has value then maybe 3/4 the cost of the case and 1/2 the cost of the mando.
Some Saga instruments (and I've tried many...
Y' know, I'm kind of glad I'm new to mando, and even newer to bluegrass. It means I'm still surprised by some of the prejudice.
Let me review the some of what I've learned so far.
* Loar is God...

Huh? What else should an Eastman sound like? http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rock.gif
Great thread! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Hi Howard,
Try this one:
Recent glue thread
"The Old House" - Actually works better on tenor b*njo... very simple, but possible to inject a LOT of feeling.
"Swallow's Tail" - A great reel
"Maid Behind the Bar" - Another fine reel
"Top...
Hi Larry,
Finbar Furey is another Irish 5-string picker, although his style is typically very sparse, he gets some great effect. The Fureys' hit single from many years ago "When You Were Sweet...
Guitar to mando?
Depends on many things, but for Celtic tunes I'd say the major scale notes for G and D fall more naturally under my fingers - especially at mando scale length.
For bluegrass,...
Sorry Glen, I misread your earlier post as referring to truss rod issues. Having just gone back and read properly, I see what you mean! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Hmm... That single bolt doesn't instill much confidence in the neck joint, does it?
Would it be worth adding another bolt? Or screwing a plate across the neck heel to body area? Depending on...
Judging by post count, I'm probably newbier than most who have replied so far, and so my first impressions of mando are relatively fresh in my mind.
When I first held the mando I had as a beginner...
Like mythicfish I sort of blame my lovely wife. Not only did she buy me my first mando, but she's also just bought me my first DIY mando kit! Talk about encouragement....
