Fender standard shaped heavy are what I use now, they cost @.30
They sound good to my ear.
Drop a 1/2 step and play key of F to sound E. It sounds good against the guitar I think.
I also find it's better to work on fewer new tunes, otherwise they do tend to slip away from you fast. If I make it my own with slides and doublestops where I like them, it all sticks better than...
None other than tunes now. I figure if I play the tunes and learn the chords it's all I want. Mostly need to focus on right hand and keep it relaxed as much as possible.
Just got 3 of the 4 Kaufman fiddle tune books A-Z. Do you think having too many tunes at once puts you at risk of total confusion and overload? I do:grin:
My plan is to pick a couple each week...
Harmonic minor for one. It all starts to sound Jewish/Gypsy/Mid-Eastern no matter what you play. Happy Bar Mitzvah.
I use VIXY to good success. It's free as well and no download required.
Yes , and due to the tight time constraints of the liquidation, you would most likely take bad losses to boot.:(
Blackberry Blossom and Devil's Dream are two tunes that I could never count among my favorites for some reason. Curious to hear some alternate version of BB. Devil's Dream is good in a medley but by...
Ebay is medium level risk, Craigs list is risky unless you can pick up in person.
This is a really good way to get the tunes into your head. I used to do that to, I may do it again. It's like brainwash, but in a good way.
Practice and warm up make a bigger difference I think :)
Mine was the Norman Blake DVD. Somehow the pace of the explanation and the angles of his hand and song selections gave me a model to base further arrangements of fiddle tunes and mandolin songs.

I want to apologize about making what I thought was a harmless joke and used the word "womandolin" Apparently it offended one or more members and it was removed. I now realize the pious or somewhat...
You are internalizing the notation. That's a good thing.
Thanks, that looks like my bridge, I don't have a stamp. I'll stop obsessing on it now.
I just can't help thinking the psychology of "the more you pay, the better the item" comes into play here. I use a Daddario coolpik, seems just fine, but I wish it came in a more rounded shape.
Anyone have a pic of what the original Lloyd era (adjustable) bridges looked like? Just wondering if this is what I have on my A4. It would be cool to find out it really is, not a replacement. The...
My sentiments exactly. It still plays the same, and now you got the first ding out of the way. Letting it slide is good for you. Tell him you like that mandolin and ask him to be careful around it?
Those are good prices. If I needed a mandolin I would jump on a couple I saw there.
Thanks Gail
It's an A-4 and it sounds good now, I was able to get the intonation right as well. After the strings are up to pitch there is less visible gap, apparently preassure on the top...
Thanks Jim
the fit stinks both ways as I discovered. Common sense says the slightly longer length under the bass will add more support for those strings. I never knew there was any difference, but...
Ok stupid question... on an adjustable bridge:
Right UNDER the thumbwheels one support (where thumbwheel will hit when screwed at its lowest setting) is a bit shorter than the other. Is that for...
Worry about tone and good rhythm more than speed. Maybe you'll never play too fast, but at least you'll sound good at a slower tempo.
