Just wanted to say check out the Edsel's Tailpipe tune on the MP3 page from this band. Although I haven't met Jimmy (mando) and Enola (bass), I will say I've picked a few with Glenn (banjo), Scott...

Just wanted to say check out the Edsel's Tailpipe tune on the MP3 page from this band. Although I haven't met Jimmy (mando) and Enola (bass), I will say I've picked a few with Glenn (banjo), Scott...
Folks, I regret to say that this project is no longer being fullfilled. After scraping the finish off the top, I noticed I had a nice crack developing. The neck heal also had a small crack in it, how...
I feel strings make a large difference. I've been playing for 20 years and have had a couple gibson flatirons, a handmade mando from a late old Friend of mine, another luthier made by doug odell...
Back almost ready to go on in the one pic. The other, pretty obvious. Finish is off the back, sides, and most of the neck at this point. Give 'er a couple days and throw on the strings. Vid to...
New pic with #2 x brace glued and kerfed lining patch as well.

Bill thanks for the info on the factory finish. I figured it was put on thin but poly since where it came from. Bernie, I...
Ill probably use the wool or papers around the binding and such. From what little bit of solvent I used, it just softens up that plati-coat and makes it easier to scrape.
Probably get the next bar in 6:30 ish tomorrow when the glue it set, clean up the inside next day then start prepping that back to go back on. Then the finish removal.... Also going to pull that dang...
Glued in the first x bar tonight. Another pic shows the layout.8629586296
Hi Meanslide. I'm into a project like your's on an eastman 515. Mines pretty scuffed up and im going to take the plastic off mine too. I have a method for that but when I get down to the wood, it's...
Well back is off. Came off pretty clean should go back on. Was able to actually persuade the tone bars out of it without much issue too. I am surprised at the build quality inside and the dovetail...
Hey folks. I have the old eastman 515 here. Thinking about tricking it out some. The finish is starting to get banged up in several places, and most know the earlier eastmans weren't known for finish...
They're all i use! I used J75s for years then a pickin buddy got me to try the monroes out and i've been hooked ever since. They just seem to bring out the best in all the mandos I've had through the...
Ill check it out then. Thanks. I thought about the same on gibson loar copy i had made by a guy in the area but the bridge that was on it came off a 1916 F4 so i left it alone.
My 2007 Eastman 515 is a good one, but I am considering swapping out the stock bridge for something like a CA or a Randy Wood. The mando is loud and bright with a decent bottom end. Big chop in A but...
When chopping I go free handed. But when in a lead, I like many others will place the pinky or ring finger on the top, keeping the hand off the bridge. I just get a better sound like that.
Bolt on is the modern way in my opinion. Collins are modern........ But from a luthier standpoint, the bolt on would be easier to deal with on a reset if need be.
Phil no reason. Just thought I'd make a find the secret game. But I'm going Ratliff on this one. The scroll is too similar not to be. He's the only one I've seen making scrolls like that. I almost...
Indeed. So much for secrets. And if it really is who I think it is, the price is def a bit higher seeing as small shop guys mandos go for around 3k new from him. I think.......
As far as the other Laffertys I'm still stumped as to who it can be making them but it's clear the scrolls are different vs the deluxe model.
Hi all newbie to the forum as member but oldie viewing it. Anyway I saw the new Lafferty Deluxe model F5 on the mandolin store. Looks good and probably has the sound to match. We all have been...
