  1. Re: The inescapable truth: Why you NEED a cheap mando

I bought a cheap mandolin about a year ago.I'm happy and most likely won't upgrade until I get a tad better.I'll never be Ricky Skaggs or Sam Bush, but I can have fun learning.I just didn't see the...

What's the widest neck on a mandolin?

I got a cheap China,Korean,or Indonesian guitar with a tiny neck.Playing a A four fingered barre chord seems almost imposible.I mostly stick with two finger chords and play mostly in G.What's the...
  3. Re: Has anyone tune their mandolin a half step down?

When I play with others,I'll clamp on a capo on the 1st fret so I'll be in tune. I guess you clamp on a capo on a mandolin.:))
  4. Has anyone tune their mandolin a half step down?

Just a thought. I tune my guitars a half step down to match my singing voice.Has anyone done this with a mandolin? Just wondering here.

  7. Mandolin tabs or can I use guitar(mandolin chords)to play songs?

I love to play gospel music, perferably country gospel. I can only pick out a few of these songs note by note, but I use chords a lot to play along with a guitar. Is there a tab site for country...
  8. Re: Learning to play new chords and in different keys.

Thank you all for your advise. While I'm a true beginner,I guess I don't have the paitence. It'll take time, just like the guitar.I didn't learn to barre a chord untill I played for a year.
  9. Re: Learning to play new chords and in different keys.

That's what I figured.I played the guitar for more than 25 years. The mandolin,by far is harder.I picked the concepts pretty easy, chops, and all.But those chords are killing me!
  10. Learning to play new chords and in different keys.

I wanted to learn as quickly as possible to play,I chose the easiest chords to play.Since they only used two fingers,I caught on pretty quick. Now I'd like to advance my playing and learn other...

  15. Re: I'm knew here, and new to the mandolin as well.

Glad to meet you all! I'm just now getting into bluegrass music.I've come a long way since I started playing music. Defintly different than 25 years ago,I listened to heavy metal back then!:whistling:
