Re: Transposing " I Know you rider"

I've done the same thing and yes, you shift if up a string. As far as I play it, there are no notes lower than the A on the G string.

    Re: Duck Dynasty

Original is on the Tim O'Brien and Darrell Scott "Real Time" album. Dixie Chicks also used the song "Long Time Gone" off that album

Re: Anyone know the make of this tenor?

I am also starting to think it is the tuning he is in that really brings out this instrument. Either he uses weird fingerings or he is not tuned in fifths. Here is another video of similar playing,...

Re: Anyone know the make of this tenor?

Thanks! Yea, I tried doing a little research but the beat up nature of the guitar made it tough to know for sure.

Do most of these Gibson's have a similar sound? It seems a lot of tenor...

Haha, yea for some reason I couldn't read that quite right. Almost thought it was "Ste...". Know what model of "Gib" it might be?

Re: Strumming a melody vs. Alternate Picking

Isn't part of Sam's style due to a wrist injury? I seem to remember seeing this somewhere.

    Re: Atlantic City

For the little intro I play a 3 sets of triplets walking down like so

    A: 7-7-7---0-0-0---0-0-0
    E: 5-5-5---2-2-2---0-0-0

then walk down on the A string into the chords with quarter notes

  11. Coolest use of a mandolin orchestra I have seen

Just found this the other day and hadn't seen it here yet. This guy is apparently a well known Canadian folk artist and his newest project uses the Upper York Mandolin Orchestra as a backing band...

Just found this guy and figured some might appreciate it. Somehow I have never heard of him but apparently he is a fairly well known Canadian clawhammer folkie. His new album has got lots of mando...

Mark O'Connor's son, Forrest O'Connor, has some awesome youtube videos I've been listening to. Great example of mandolin/mandola used for singer songwriter stuff.

    Cool Band

I've been listening to these guys a lot lately. Almost Tom Waits meets the Pogues but its a stylistically varied album. Just thought some might enjoy and hadn't seen them mentioned here.
