I can't either. With strings on, who can tell? Really cool idea. Can't wait to see what the pickguard looks like.

Ouch. That one hurt. :)
Possibly, but probably not by much unless you can really change the string break angle over the bridge. On rocking bridges like the Jaguar and Mustang, for instance, I find sustain is better with a...
Yes - technically we're talking "made-to-measure" sets here, since we're customizing something off the rack, as it were.
Specifically, the Twin Fusion has an external carpenter jack, while the Twin Spot has an internal endpin jack. The Mandolin Twin and the Twin Fusion Mandolin have larger pads on the piezo element...
"My other one is what I spent most of the money I made playing in Nickel Creek on. It’s 200 [thousand dollars]."
Not sure which strikes me more - that he spent nearly all his earnings on his tool...
"I've been taking work that is very lucrative but creatively bankrupt. Instead, I can just be working [on my music], and that's heavenly."
Jeeze - like what? Best I can tell, everything he's put...
That's pretty much the plan this evening. Check out the rest of the vids (7 total) - there's some great stuff, including Eldridge playing mandolin.
To me it's the little stuff that knocks me over...
Mandolin Brothers got a visit from 3/5ths of the Punch Brothers and had the presence of mind to keep the camera rolling. :) Thile played through 2 Loars (including one 2 SNs off from his) and a Fern....
Heartily agree. It still amazes me how much difference there is in the tone when you let the back resonate freely. As in goes from sounding pretty decent to being a real belly-shaker on the bass end....
That Thile-Marshall show is a great one. Best part, IMO, was after broadcast when the two of them started jamming.
Only the "V"s have the varnish finish. Standard 815s are nitrocellulose lacquer.
EDIT: More info on the 815 here: http://www.eastmanguitars.com/md815/. Lists it as a nitro finish.
You should hear some of his more recent instruments. They keep getting better and better. I've had a chance to play his F5, A5, two-point, mandola and octave, and they're all superior instruments in...
Looks good to me. I picked up an 815V for $900 in unplayed condition and felt like I got a deal.
Why...why...WHY did you have to post that!? Oh, the MAS...
I'll err on the side of caution, then.
I found plenty of threads regarding copyright and recording on the board, but didn't see anything specifically pertaining to posting transcriptions. Feel free to point me in the right direction if I...
Great presentation - would love to see it as a full-blown TED talk, replete with playing examples of how you as an artist build your vocabulary and put it use. For the average non-musician (and many...
Man, Gates really gave it the business. Love his swing playing.
Great album!! That was a tasty version of "You Never Give Me Your Money". Love your playing, and the other players on there aren't slouches either. Glad to see you got to work with Mr. McGann before...
The back on that one is beautiful! I'm totally jealous. Those T&W 3-points are something special.
Ah, grasshopper. The mando-fu is strong within you. Now take this Blue Chip from my hand...
You do beautiful work, Steve. Love your modern take on the curve, headstock and those sound holes! That F8's gonna be a monster.
Thanks! I can knock this off tonight's transcription list.
Oh, the MAS! There something about those wood-bodied resonators. They look and sound so cool.
