  6. Re: Tension's Mountain Boys at Carnegie Hall 2007

...I went back and checked it was on 02/20/07 that I saw the Tension's Mountain Boys (soon to morph into the Punch Brothers) in Hamilton, Ohio.

It also happened to be Chris's birthday the day of...

I saw that configuration back in that same time period at Parish Hall at Miami University-Hamilton. Bryan Sutton was playing guitar in that ensemble. During the show they were jokingly refering to...

"New Primitive" has been in heavy rotation of late for me. Great piece of work. Mr. Steffey is a tone monster.

Re: Where can I learn MacReynolds crosspicking?

I must have lucked out. I picked a copy uo of the And Statman book on Jesse McReynolds several years ago off of Craigslist for around $20. I'm just getting around to start working through the book....

Re: Pava A4 oval hole eye candy.

I had a chance to sample Boilline78's new Pava over the weekend and it is VERY nice. It is quite resonant, with ample sustain, and very organic. The build quality, fit and finish, is immaculate....

    Re: Crosspicking Definition

    Achy Bonz,

Well, it's a little bit of a contested topic on the Cafe.

One school believes it is a fairly strict definition of the style Jesse Mc Reynolds created to emulate a banjo roll. In...

    Re: Crosspicking Definition

    sblock,

I'm with Jordan Ramsey on this one. It's not just about the string sequence, the right hand pattern is the crux of the style Mr. Ramsey describes/defines as "Crosspicking". The alternating...

All is well that ends well. Glad to see the owner will be reunited with their instrument. Calton has to love this real-life testimonty to the integrity of their product.

Re: The "Lost My Blue Chip" Blues

The lyrical form is spot on. Did you really lose your Blue Chip? If so, I feel for you, borther. I've misplaced mine before, but it always turns back up. Mine blends in too well with my coffee table.

    Re: C Chop Chord Fingering

If I'm playing a C chop chord, I don't play the first string G note (3rd fret). Most of the emphasis for that chop chords' annunciation is going to come from the 4th and 3rd strings.

    Re: Crosspicking and pick direction

    Hi Varin,

This topic can get fiercely debated on this forum (at least it has in the past). The McReynolds' camp will say that cross-picking is a series of pick stroke sequences (D-D-U-D-D-U-D-U),...
