hehehe it matches my eyes :D no, but seriously...it's got the cords at one end to tie it to the neck, that's as proper as it gets innit
The leather cord I tied the strap to the mandolin snapped! And not in an "easy to sort out in front of a crowd" kinda way lol
I bought a new one, a proper mandolin strap, first thing on monday :)...
So, it's been a while...
Anyhoo, we're gigging now!!!

We're trying out a drummer in a couple of weeks time :D
I was lost til "Colorado Beetle" was mentioned...they're not the most popular of beetles, are they
Going back to your original question, I jam with a guitarist and a double bass player. I started off with playing the chords in a song, but follow the bass player to add to the rhythm, then for lead...
Or, over here, after a certain incident, KFC = Kentucky Fried Cyst....never ate one again after that little incident...
Just a quickie to say thanks to Mike and Mandocaff (that's here) for the google hangout last night, I learned a few tips, and Mike's tales of playing with all those folks were brilliant.

So, what frets on what strings would it be then?
What a cool series :mandosmiley: I'm deffo subscribing, and sharing your link on facebook n that - it's something that's needed to be done for a loooooooong time!
Ace! Cheers for the link, I've got new practicey stuff now :mandosmiley:
Nice one! I'm still at the point where I'm playing the open G for a strum before the other fingers catch up :) same with the D one..
I agree, it makes it a lot easier if you barre the entire fret, then use the rest of your fingers for the other strings. Normally when I do it, my finger is roughly positioned where my first knuckle...
In the books I started off with (Simon Mayer?Meyer?) it read that each of your four fingers covered two frets, so taking you past the 7th. I reckon the trouble you're having with getting the strings...
Nice idea with the dog bone bart. We buy one of those sterilised bones each week for the mutt, I'm sure she won't mind me nicking a bit :)
...handy with the fingers?
The shim worked!!! Thanks so much, now I have two working mandolins :mandosmiley:
Thanks :) I've got a ton of those sticks you get for stirring coffee, ostensibly for putting cambers into roads on my model railway so I'll use one of them until I can get or make a new nut (going to...
Thanks for that. So, if i could sand down the top surface and re-cut the slots, that would work?
