  3. Re: Gibson threatening the mandolin and guitar luthier community

The bottom line is that we all thought or hoped that the recent depressing era was over and we were hoping for sunny days ahead. It appears to be just the opposite. I don’t care about Gibson anymore....

Re: KM1000 Spec Question -- side width?

Thanks Len. Yeah, depth is the proper word. I like the mandolin, can't play it for beans. I'm a guitar player and the mandolin kicks my dyslexia into overdrive.

KM1000 Spec Question -- side width?

Years ago, I had a Kentucky KM1000. The body was narrower than most mandolins. SAGA said that they copied the owner's Loar F5 which had its Virzi removed and in the process the instrument had been...

As a 73-year-old steel guitar and guitar picker, I am by no means a new-be about instruments but I have never been very good at picking a mandolin. It causes terrible problems with my dyslexia;...

    Re: Black Cloud Over Gibson

Fender Japan bailed out Fender USA at that time. Those were great guitars. I don't remember Gibson producing any guitars in Japan. And if they did, they would most certainly not be "inferior."

    Re: Underrated Players?

Amazingly enough, I rarely hear about Marty Stuart. Marty absolutely smokes on the mandolin, not a lot of pickers can say they are better players.
  16. Re: Why did you choose the mandolin over another instrument?

Vinnie, Joey and Vito said if I didn't play the mandolin at Johnny "Big Johnny" G.'s funeral it would be a problem.

    Re: Collings mandolin thoughts?

There's always a ton of them used for sale on the Forum. This tells me people buy them and then move on to something else. I've found all Collings instruments to be sterile sounding but loud. If...
