That would have never stopped my twins. Somehow they managed to survive to adulthood (probably my husband keeping weapon-like objects out of my sight). In our house, it was footballs and fast-pitch...

    Austin week of July 26?

I'm tagging along with my hub on a business trip, and I will be in Austin July 26-31. (Actually, I'm driving him, so I'll have a car and we can meander through north Texas a bit.) I'll be free...

    Re: New Dunlop Pick?

Thanks, Dan, for sending me the PrimeTone (and the other two, as well) while I wait for my order. I have to really do a workout with it this weekend (dang work interferred this week), but I think...
  10. Re: How do you know when it's time for new strings?

And now that we have humidity back in spades - OH Blessed RAIN! - we now know what caused string rattling. The Ratliff has to live in it's case with a humidifier whenever I am not playing it.

    I...

It's the blond 3 point on Audey's custom page. (I still need good pictures of it...) Oh, wait - Eddie Sheehy posted in a thread last month when it came up that he used to own it and posted pics -...

  13. Re: How do you know when it's time for new strings?

    Hi, Ivan -

It's an Audey Ratliff, not a Ken Ratcliff, mandolin. And it does not have a truss rod cover. I had the light strings on it while I built up my hands and fingertips - I was thinking...

    Re: Thanks everyone!

Oh, good - someone else in the area!! I haven't been in Larsen's yet, but I think they own Edmond Music up here. (I was wondering where all those wrong notes came from that I found in my case...)

    Re: Pick Blasphemy

I'm still trying to find a pick I can just hold on to - hand issues. This weekend is experimenting with sticky stuff. (While waiting for the elusive Prime-tones...)

That said, I like the tone of...

Thanks - I forgot about them!
  17. Re: How do you know when it's time for new strings?

Hrm. This one doesn't have an adjustable truss rod, so neck changes are out (not that I would do that myself yet). I think I'll change strings this weekend and play with the bridge a bit more, and...
  18. How do you know when it's time for new strings?

All of a sudden, my G and D strings are positively rattling. I'm still working on scales and finger busters and picking patterns and strumming patterns and more scales, so there hasn't been any...

(Pointedly not looking at the new-to-me case containing a new-to-me stringed thing over there in the corner.)
  20. Re: Alternative options in the $4000-$6000 price range

There is also Audey Ratliff - I own one of his older ones, and Marty Jacobson (I will own one someday...). Custom builds in the same price range.

Re: Does anyone "serious" not use a pick?

Thanks to everyone for their thoughts! I do need to learn to use a pick properly, just so I know the subject is covered. However, I may revert to fingers if I'm doing finger-busters with my right...

And Amazon has just emailed me to tell me these will be ANOTHER month. (I placed the order on April 15.) It's the grippy ones that are running behind, I think.

Does anyone "serious" not use a pick?

OK, I know it's heresy, but do any serious players not use a pick? I am having the hardest time getting used to using one, and the arthritis in my hands sometimes throws a fit. I am doing hand...
