Northfield had two price increases last year. One was for $2,000 - 2,500. The second one was for $2,500 - 3,000 on their F models. This represents a 50% price increase (from $2,000 to $3,000).

I owned #177 of 200 in varnish. Most were made in varnish. It was by far the best mando I have owned. It was great in all respects. I have played one loar (a 24 w/virzi) and several MM's in the...
As has already been mentioned, some folks are continuing to to confuse qc with proper set up.
sure looks like a Weber built mando. Especially when looking at the neck to back connection, looks like classic Weber. This is my unconfirmed guess. I am sure Dennis would let anyone know who...
the breedlove quartz/american line has been a great value in mandolins. I can certainly understand a price increase if their expenses have gone up. It's a gutsy call in this economic time but even...
A models will give more bang for your buck. Eastman 300 series, The Loar 300,400, and Kentucky 505 come to mind in this price range. All would be a good choice.
imho the kentucky km1000 and km1500 are miles ahead of the mk top end mando's for fit/finish/sound. no contest. Eastmans can be very good also but incosistent so i would suggest playing eastman...
I purchased a washburn new around 1991 when I first started playing mandolin . I was dissapointed in the sound and the non working truss rod on this mando. It is an expensive student grade mandolin...
I think it's great that Greg is striving to make a customer happy by offering to replace the instrument. I have only heard great things about TML customer service. However, their customer service I...
I put a small strip of leather between my tailpiece and strings to dampen the overtones/harmonics of the strings and to make sure they have no contact with the tailpiece...works great for me.
I really like breedlove mando's. My 08 quartz ff was a great mando. Fit/finish, neck, and sound was first rate. It was a better sounding mando than anything close to it's price range. They are...
Before anyone receives the wrong impression that the kentucky km1000 is more problematic and represents a higher rate of repair than The Loar 700, please consider the kentucky has been made since...
- The Loar 700 w/ needed ca bridge upgrade = 1175.00 range
The Kentucky km1000 = 1350.00 - 1400.00 range( have seen for 1300.00 recently)
The Eastman 515 = 1000.00 range, 815v 1350.00 -...
I basically look for three things when searching for a new mandolin. Sound, playability, and fit/finish.
The Loar 700 meets the requirements of sound and playability. However, it misses the...
I believe you will find the 600 and 700 series to be nitrocellulose lacquer while the 500 series is poly.
Wow. Those pics are very telling. Thanks for sharing the pics and the review of the mando. I think most manufacturers have an oddball one slip out every now and then but the pics you shared shows...
jubilee cleaner/polish...steve at cumberland acoustics sells it.
That kentucky km675 is a pretty decent instrument, certainly better than the washburns imho.... but don't overlook the eastman 315 or The Loar 600 for around the same price point. They are both...
I bought one of these several years ago when there were no eastmans or The Loar mandolins to choose from. I never liked the lack of volume and chop on this mandolin. It is definitely a student grade...
varnish finish vs. nitrocellulose on the 1000 and 1500
Although the 700 has higher grade maple and a higher grade spruce top (visually), this does not always equate into better tone. Tone and aesthetics don't always go hand in hand. The bigger...
three f model mando's come to mind for that price range. The Loar lm 700 new is around that price point. Used would be a couple hundred cheaper . The Eastman 815v used would be around that price...
englemann with x bracing might be the ticket if you're looking for a more complex, clearer tone where volume is not as important.
I have owned varnish and lacquer webers (and flatirons when Steve and Bruce were signing the Flatirons). I have also owned x braced and tone bar models of both. So here goes my unscientific...
G. Fisher, maybe it's because in a global recession/ poor economy with high unemployment rates you just don't raise prices(or taxes for that matter). Prices should only be raised when times are...
