  1. Re: What’s the hardest tune you can play on mandolin? (Or family)

Some Chris Thile thing I learned a long time ago. I can't even remember the name of it. It's a real finger twister.

I play Sam's brilliancy a lot too, but mostly because it's so damn fun, Thile...
  2. Looking for opinions on fiddle/mandolin combo case?

Is the guardian good enough, or the bobelock 1022?

The bobelock is twice the price, but looks a little better to my eye. I think my double fiddle case is a bobelock, and it has been fine.

    What...

    Re: Need a mic recommendation

So far that PVM480 has worked out really well.

However, the dry signal is a bit harsh, but with a cut around 8.8k in my helix it sounds really good. The rejection is everything I'd hoped for so...

    Re: Need a mic recommendation

Man, that peavey sure checks off most of the boxes. $130 on amazon right now, too. Might be perfect for my application. There's someone selling one cheap ($50) local to me, definitely worth a shot.

    Re: Need a mic recommendation

I've done that, but it seems every thread recommends different mics based on different requirements of the situation. Some love the KSM32, some swear you need a KM-184, etc...

    So I posted my...

    Need a mic recommendation

I've been playing mando a good bit at church lately (along with electric guitar and other instruments), and for reasons I need to run a mic through a helix and use that as a preamp/di.

    So I'm...

    Re: Fastest Tuner

The Turbo Tuner is head and shoulders above everything else mentioned here.

    Re: Gibson Flatiron

That doesn't make sense. Festival and Performer models are different series, so it can't be both. And to look at it, it's definitely not either...

    Re: A Snark-y Tuner Thread

The turbo tuners do well in bright light, but they don't clip on. You could land a plane by the leds on them. I have one on my electric guitar board, and have been wanting the "acoustic" version...

Re: pernambuco as a finish coloring?

Pernambuco is also import restricted, so don't plan on crossing any international borders with it...
  11. Re: Will strap cause blemish on scroll of F-style Mandolin?

Go play fiddle. You'll start to think of 30 years old as young. These things are durable to 150+ years if you take care of them.
  12. Re: Getting to the Next Level aka the best laid plans...

I agree with much said here. Mike's given me good advice in the past, but I've never formally taken lessons from him (internet lessons weren't around back then), and also with learning the map of the...
  13. Re: Will strap cause blemish on scroll of F-style Mandolin?

I use a leather strap that was hand made. Unfortunately, the thing was hand dyed as well. There's a yellowing on the binding now around where the strap touches. I'm willing to leave it, but be warned...

Re: Skip the Baggs for a mic?

Skip it. I've used both, and nothing is going to beat the mic setup. No string noise, you can back off, move in for dynamics, etc... not to mention the tone is just better.
