  1. Re: First Mandolin Choice, what is available to me now

One other possibility. Guitar Center does have used and vintage instruments in many of their stores across the country. They have a deal where you can buy an instrument at another GC store and have...

    Re: Monteleones at Rudy’s

Actually, I believe that most of these are Rudy’s private collection and are displayed in cases at the Scardsdale store. I visited there a few months ago and Rudy himself showed me around and took...
  5. Re: Violinists: What are the mellow/smooth violin strings? (Nmc)

Sorry, Strabo, Helicore violin strings are actually wound on a stranded steel core not synthetic....
  6. Re: Anybody Got a Copy of Ranieri Method Vol 1 and 2?

If I recall correctly, the current two volume set of Ranieri was edited down from the original five volumes (I think). I am not sure why they did that. I would also be careful about copyright...
  7. Re: Violinists: What are the mellow/smooth violin strings? (Nmc)

My current favorite strings on my main fiddle are Kaplan Amo — very warm tone. Before that I liked Thomastik Vision on other violins.

This is a 9 plus year old thread. Oscar, no one mentioned anything about a Dombra. Tucker, read the old posts. 4-string domras are usually tuned GDAE.

    Re: Herdim Violin-Mandolin 1850s?

The seller is Ben Probus an active Violin seller on Facebook. He posted pictures of this instrument. He based the estimated date on Mittenwald violins he knows of but admitted it could be later. This...
  10. Re: Underrated Gibsons - the A2 and A3 stepchildren

This 8 year old thread reminds me to take out my 23 A-2 and give it a run, probably change its strings. Mostly I have been using D’Addario NBs on it.

Re: Help - guitar to 'cello conversion

The problem is often that new posters are unaware especially when the OP asks a question years ago. Maybe not so much in this case. In any case I try to signal a revived thread so posters know.

Re: Help - guitar to 'cello conversion

I suppose… at least it wasn’t an OP requesting advice who is no longer on the site. I have a feeing that Oscar never figured out how to start a new thread.

    Re: Yet Another CF Mandolin?

that is not surprising. I thought their timetable was very optimistic. Sorry for your disappointment, though.

I suppose if I really needed it yet another Mandolin, I would go for one of these....

Re: Mando (and why to quit callin it that...)g

The only link I saw was to an antiquated eBay listing, which, of course, was a dead end. And you know me – – I am a big stickler for linking photos for hysterical porpoises. :)

    Re: 1920's washburn

These were the flattops of the L&H line. It says style E and that is what it is. For some odd reason they switched the letters depending on the year going up to G even.
