    Re: Oval Hole Mandolin Inquiry

I have always wondered why they are called short neck, the necks are the same, just set down deeper into the body. The scale is the same, yet a big difference in sound. I know that most will not...
  3. Re: New F4 on Ebay with pictures that are impossible

Neck repair? That may be the reason for the bad pictures.

Re: Great 1920 F2 on eBay

I don't personally know this as fact. It was posted on a thread here by a custom mandolin builder a while back as an answer to my post asking why birch was not used anymore. Hope no builder takes...

Re: Great 1920 F2 on eBay

I don't think either are maple. Birch is my guess. There may have ben some F2 with maple, I have never seen one, though I did have an A3 with beautiful maple, and one could easily see the difference.
  7. Re: Who plays an A style in bluegrass or even old time music?

You mean a real A model?

Re: Great 1920 F2 on eBay

[QUOTE=lenf12;1251825]Is that a mildly figured maple back (and sides?) on this F-2? That could certainly help justify the BIN $3500 imo.

Re: Great 1920 F2 on eBay

After some experience with a few F2s, I have decided to stick with the A model. The A's sound much better to me and cost a third as much. Has anyone else found this? The F2 just do not have the sound...

Re: Current price for a 1924 Gibson A-Jr Snakehead?

I would say 1100 but if in that good a shape then more, and if it has that sound you like another 200 maybe. However I would not offer that, that would take all the fun out of horse trading.

Re: A Hole Full of Snakes

There's an A4 snake crawling in the Classifieds. I wish I could compare sounds with my paddlehead A4.
  12. Re: Return Issues ... What To Expect vs What Might Happen Instead

If you open a case through Ebay or Paypal, they will make you wait a week and expect the seller to co-operate. Then after 7 days upgrade to a claim and then you will see some results. Every time I...

Re: A song that moves you.

It's one of my favorites too. I love it on Harmonica also. I read once that his mandolin is a Gibson copy, hand made to the Gibson specs, but forgot by who.

    Re: Gibson mandolin question

Seems like Snakeheads have doubled in the last 3 yrs. IMO, F5 Loars are overpriced, whereas the F4 in excellent condition may have increased in value. Like everything else, it's supply and demand,...

    Re: Gibson A-40 at GC

The price and year look close to me, however I would guess refinish. So what?, if it has a good sound , who cares. You can offer and they will negotiate most instruments, it is expected. They also...

Re: Looking for info on Alvarez F5 from the 70s

I have seen a few sell in the $2/500 range on EBAY. I have also seen many for sale for much higher prices. I do not think they sold. Check them on EBAY.

Re: New Mandolin advice - $3000 range?

IMO* With your love for the BL and the music you play, I would stick with it, keep it and just add a mandolin by spending a thousand for a good old Gibson A. It likely will have a greater volume and...
