As far as the neck, I haven’t measured but funny you should mention it: I was thinking yesterday when playing it that it’s super comfortable. Not too thick or thin.
I called Gary Vessel...super nice guy and helpful. Said the same about seam separation. I just assumed all tops were one piece. He advised on the truss rod, which I just tried. I turned it probably...
Thanks for that info...I was wondering about cost. I had no idea of the ballpark. This actually helps a lot. I didn’t pay a lot for the mandolin, so seems like it will be feasible for me to put...
Thanks...any rec’s on good luthiers in SoCal from anyone here would be appreciated. There is a local shop I have used for smaller jobs, but this would likely require someone with much more experience...
Even as is, with old strings, it sounds great. Looks great. Just don’t have a ton of money to put into it...don’t know how much the repairs would be...

It’s been over ten years since I have posted. Getting back into mandolin and recently bought this F-5 Loar copy. However, it has some issues. There is a bowed neck, which I have not tried...
Buy an A-9. I've had my F-9 for two years, and it sounded great from the start. It's probably a bit louder now though. You might check on Ebay: many people use Paypal there.
There are three Grisman/Garcia CD's that I have, and I love each of them: SHADY GROVE, GRISMAN/GARCIA,and NOT FOR KIDS ONLY. The playing by each is probably not the best they have done, but the vibe...
Hee-hee! You mean "man-purse"! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif As for VW, I will never buy another again. I love my Passat wagon, but it's been nothing but high...
Ted, be prepared to get teased driving that thing. Whenever I drive my wife's bug, my students tease the hell out of me. They all ask, "Hey, do you have a man purse to go with that car?" As for other...
Hmmm...was the parrot a Dadaist statement as was Marcel Duchamp's treatment of The Mona Lisa? Probably not: they probably thought it looked purty.
Wow! Great looking mandos, and even the display is made of nice quarter-sawn oak! The man obviously knows his wood!
Oh, at first I thought that was Monroe's corpse: it's only Keith Richards! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
I never knew Bill was related to the other famous Monroe! Wow, that was news to me.
How much is he asking for it? Hopefully not a lot in that condition.
Yes, but remember that Breedlove makes a lot of guitars. Rigel only made mandolins( and some mando family instruments ). I'm not sure Breedlove would have survived had it not been for the guitar line.
Phil's BBQ is great, but it's in Mission Hills. You may have to wait a long while to get your food, but it's worth it!
Yeah, but I'd get excited if I could sell it for two hundred grand or more! http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Is it legal in the UK? Absinthe has been illegal here in the states for a while, I believe, since it's said to cause dementia. I've always wanted to at least try it--and to try a three point!
Was there any talk of them putting out a Gibson oval? I thought Big Joe hinted at that, but I could of course be wrong. There's such a market for ovals that it seems that it would sell quite well.
