Do you think they wanted the sound or the banjo or just the extra volume of a banjo?

How about Anniversary Song?

Still thinking about steampunking my old National, and maybe stringing it as a mandola
I have an old resonator mando. The high E courses are really bright and tinny. Can I restring it CGDA, like a mandola? Anything I need to be aware of if I do that?
I play in the QHCF-inspired quintet, the Jill Martini Soirée. The charts are just head charts, most of the intros, harmony licks, etc. may be worked out in rehearsal, but it's all done by memory....
That's fantastic! Do you have an album for sale somewhere?
My psjj didn't come with a pickguard. Slightly used
Lovin' my PS JJ. replaced the tuners, but it still needs to go to Mr. Repairman for a fret dress and pickup install.
All the mando parts on the Jill Martini Soiree CD "It's The Mood" are the PS JJ!
At the risk of resurrecting a zombie thread for Halloween......
I played a steampunk gypsy jazz gig yesterday, and this thread gives me crazy ideas for my old metal National Duolian mandolin. I...
The original tailpiece on vintage National mandos has always been a weak spot. Is the tailpiece that National used on the RM-1 available as a separate part? It looks good 'n' sturdy

It's on my "to get" list, Jason!
Hey Michael, you look really familiar. Are you related to Danny Thompson, the great guitar player out of Indianapolis?
I need a good mandolin luthier to do some set up (maybe a new nut) and install a K&K pickup for me. Can you suggest a good shop (trusted, reasonably quick, and reasonably affordable), either between...
Djangologists is a brilliant CD/DVD set!
Where's the best place to buy K&K mandolin pickups? Is there a noticeable difference between the Twin Internal (two heads) and the Big Shot Internal (one head)?
Ninine is amazing. I hope to get to see him at La Chop des Puces next year
It's not hard to tx to G from F, Ian. I'm trying to be fluent in both keys before I go to DFNW later this month
I learned it from Kermit Ruffins & Preservation Hall Jazz Band. No mando part, but a great second-line song
It's more about arpeggios and the ornaments than scales. I find, scale-wise, that I use the chromatic scale mixed in with arpeggios more than any exotic gypsy-minor scales. Maybe the diminshed scale,...
The whole button is split - cheap plastic. And the "tuning with pliers" trick gets real old real fast!
Got my PSJJ on the bench last night. The good news is that the tuner isn't stripped, only the button. The bad news is that the Schaller tuners I had don't seem to line up. Anybody got a line on a new...
Ian, what heresy!!!!!! lol
How's life in the Great White North, buddy? Are you coming down for DFNW?
Did you have to remove the binding to get the frets out?
I don't have a K&K in my mandolin yet. I do have the K&K Pure Maccaferri Trinity system in my Gitane DG300, and I like the sound of the piezo better without the K&K prepamp than with it.
I'm working on the "butter" thing. What is involved in scooping the extension?
