  1. Re: Fiddler in Band DINGED my BEST mandolin . .. !

This has hapenned to me many times.
Every ding on my Martin D40 has been caused by the guy that I play with. Two to the sides and one to the top. I love the guy, know he didn't do it on purpose...so...

    Re: Big Mon photo

This. Likely because it was on a Monroe album, Saga figured it was Monroe's to begin with. Once you give a gift, it's the recipient's to do with as they wish, however artwork, song lyrics and photos...
  3. Re: " The Loar " mandolins question : models etc..

Keith, IIRC, you live in the TC area. I bought a LM600 from Robert that you are welcome to try. I love it.

Re: Punch Bros - Sorry, Don't Get It

Thile and Matthews- -great musicians making bad music, for me anyhow.
But that doesn't surprise me. I am very linear when it comes to music. Anything tangental I don't like. For example- I like the...

    Re: increase mandolin volume

I am surprised nobody has addressed how the mandolin is being held. Keep it off your chest or belly- that's like a wet blanket. You'll really notice the difference if you just make an effort to make...
  7. Re: Is an Eastman 515 worth the extra $$$ over a Loar 500/600???

Had the Eastman, sold it, got the Loar 600 and have been extremely satisfied in every way. Best value in mandos that I've played. And it just gets better and better.

Re: What do you think of Steve Earle?

That's really quite demeaning calling a corporation bloodless that provides jobs and benefits for hundreds of thousands of people. How big does a corporation have to be when they go from acceptable...

Re: What do you think of Steve Earle?

    I dunno.
He's a great songwriter, had a successful recovery and that's great.
He's one of those guys who can't keep his mouth shut and is passionate about many things with which I disagree.
    That...
  10. Re: Loar Lm-600 or Eastman MD515 or Kentucky KM-1000?

I love my Loar 600. I sold and Eastman to buy it. The Eastman I was able to play and liked it; however the Eastman never really opened up, and after owning a Summit and a King Brown, I was quickly...

    Re: Brush with a Loar

The one I played was under the same circumstances-
There was a post here years ago where folks were talking about Loars. I said I never had the pleasure. A member here who lives near me emailed me,...

    Re: New Loar 600 VS

You get used to that neck real fast, it's like anything new, just takes adjustment.
The tone made made me forget about the neck in a week.

    Re: Strap help

Get the red rubber washer off of a Grolsch beer bottle, slip it over the strap when on the peg. If you can't find one, go to the hardware store and get a similar sized rubber washer.
    They both work...

    Re: "Boutique Instrument Bubble?"

I don't think it'll burst. At least it hasn't since I joined the cafe and this same topic was covered then and many times since.
  15. Re: An Interesting Characteristic Of My Loar 600

No, anywhere I fret. It's not buzzy, it's just a wonderful tone swell.
  16. An Interesting Characteristic Of My Loar 600

I really am in love with this mandolin.
It's very complex and unbelieveably resonant.
I was playing last night, just fingering single notes and slowly letting them ring, marvelling at the tone....
  17. Re: Puzzled by the high prices of high end mandolins

Supply and demand based on opinion(good, very subjective) and heresay(bad, prone to ego and boasting). I used to be a cork sniffer, now I'm a cork listener.
If a guitar or a mandolin happen to be...

    Re: Plain jane Loar LM-600

Dang, I just got mine today in the mail. While the wood isn't the flamiest I've seen, it's not plainest either. As for the sunburst, mine is that classic dark around the edges and not too bright in...

    Re: Playin' it pretty (me)

Listen to Ron Thomason of Dry Branch Fire Squad. His playing on "Atlanta is Burning" or "Memories That Bless and Burn" epitomizes pretty playing.

Re: Who'll be at Bean Blossom?

Nashville and Brown County in general is a neat place to see.

    Re: Is this a Maurer?

NOT to be a wet blanket, but those old bowlbacks are a dime a dozen with most being copies. There are great copies of Les Pauls everywhere, but Gibsons, like Larson and Maurer are pretty well marked....

    Re: Blue chip picks

Best pick I've got that has "that sound" is a chunk of ivory.
When my Mom passed away in '99, one of her jewelry items was a beaded ivory necklace. It had a large piece in the middle. It was too...
