I wonder if Eastmans thinking about making a distressed model like so many of the custom builders ?
Dave
Caleb, did you use the scotchbrite on the whole mando or just the neck ? I assume you removed the bridge, tailpiece, and tuners ?
Dave
Funny I have a Eastman 615 spirit varnish only, and got one heck of a deal from Dennis at the Mandolin Store. It's great playing and sounding, and with the varnish finish it's has instantly age 30...
Hey Allen my 615 dosen't even have a thin layer of lacquer buffed back down ! Just spirit varnish only. I'm sure that's why if checked so quickly and severly. Problem being if there is one is thst it...
After having my new Eastman 615V for about a month I decided to dive into the string changing arena. This being my first mando and reading all the threads about dealing with Eastman bridges I was...
I have a new Eastman 615V. It has that yellowed binding, and somewhat mat finish about it, but it also has quite a bit of crazing across the top which I believe wan't planned to happen but did. It...
Here's a picture of the only Weber I can afford for now !
Dave
I wish I could remember where I bought it. You would think Weber would have had some involvement with copyright laws and all. Funny thing is that I wasn't even thinking Mando's back then ! I will try...
I just started playing mandolin a few weeks ago and just realized the wall clock that has been in my music room is based on a Weber Fern. I don't even remember where I bought it but it sure was a...
I just recently bought an Eastman 615 Varnish. You want to talk about finish ! This thing looks like it's 100 years old already and was built this year ! But it also sounds and plays GREAT ! Actually...
Is there a large difference between the A style mando's compare to an F ? I have a Eastman 615, but saw a cool 805 two point and wondered if these models generally share the same tone qualities ? or...
Yep to all the above. I have a new 615V and the tuners are a bit tight, but I hope also that is why it stays in tune so well. I have never owned a mando before and haven't had a chance to check out...
I was in the same situation a couple of weeks ago and went to Elderly and played a 505, 515, 615, and a 815. Hands down the 515 shined above the others in tone and volume. Maybe the others hadn't...
How many of you out there play either semi professionally or for a living play Eastman mandolins ? I just started playing mando and bought a new Eastman 615 Varnish and am hoping that my new mando...
Thank you Roberto for steering me in the right direction.
Dave
Here it is according to Sean this is the one and only 615V Sunburst. My new friend here on the Cafe Roberto from Spain wanted to see some pics. I'm no mando player "yet" but I think it's starting to...
I tried both at Elderly before buying and they had several of both brands, and I went with an Eastman. I personally liked the feel of the neck on the Eastman and they did have a V provile vs a more...
Here's my new/old 615 Varnish. The only one like this they did ! The varnish has some checking in it but it just adds to the vibe.
Dave
Thanks Sean. It was and easy decision. The more I play it the better it sounds, and there's no way I could have touched anything of this quality and looks for this price.
Thank you, Dave
Last week I recieved my new Eastman 615V,and it's got a very cool old vintage vibe look to it besides the sound. I believe it's the first spirit varnish sunburst 615 Eastman has done. At first I...
Chuck thanks for the input. Yeah it's nice to have things look nice when you buy them brand new, but I got a great price as you did on this Mandolin and was told the finish was less than perfect. So...
Is there any way to stop varnish from checking. My new Eastman varnish 615v arrived yesterday. After waiting till late today to open the finish has crazed on the surface a bit. I was warned that...
Well I finally broke down about 2 hr's before the 24 hr. waiting period and checked out my new mando. I may have made a mistake but the instrument had been sitting in the house along with all my...
It's been hard but I decided as everyone suggested to wait till tomorrow to open my new Christmas present ! Dennis at the Mandolin Store made me a great deal on my new 615 varnish mandolin and I feel...
