  1. Re: Trip to Kentucky, is Rosine worth a visit?

Louisville has the Louisville Slugger Factory tours. And Rosine is a nice visit for us bluegrassers.
  2. Re: Jade mandolin with a strangely shaped top

That looks very much like one a friend of mine owns/used to own. He lovingly called it “the pregnant goat.” 😂 Solid mandolin and great tone… seemed to be just the way the top was carved. He had a...

  8. Re: Joe Booher, has anyone see this guy??????

Saw him up close and personal at a very small venue a month or so ago... he is an absolute hoot to watch, and very talented!
  9. Re: Has anyone heard of a mando called "The Hummel"?

Re: Do spiders love or hate mandolins

I don't think I've ever seen a hedge apple small enough to put in a mandolin... All the ones I've seen are softball size (and really fun to throw at tree trunks and splatter 'em everywhere!)
  11. Re: Favorite Monroe instrumental..(and why?)

Old Dangerfield, Sugarloaf Mountain, Bluegrass Stomp... too many to choose from!

Re: Finally Got To Play a Jade

As a Jade owner, I couldn't be happier with mine. It did have some fret issues, but after a refret by Will Kimble, it plays like butter. I had my teacher, Brian Aldridge, raise the bridge and put...

    Re: The word "Mandolin"

Mandolin is derived from the Latin words 'mand' meaning finger, and 'olin' meaning pain
  17. Re: It is Well (Elisha's Song) by the Isaacs

Hmmm, tried an F on "death" and it didn't sound right to me... but I got the same thing as you for the verse. I'll have to revisit it tomorrow when it's not so late!
  18. Re: It is Well (Elisha's Song) by the Isaacs

I've got the first verse and part of the chorus worked out; they are both in D. I believe there's some funky chord in it on "death" in the chorus and I can't figure out what it is. A minor, a 7th,...

    Re: Tuning Peg Blues

A little late to help, but I know Sonny ships his mandolins strung with Martin Bluegrass strings, which are a lighter gauge than the ones you use: so the guys were correct (of course!) in pointing...

    Re: Jug Band music

I have heard of Leroy Troy and the Tennessee Mafia Jug Band... but I don't know if they actually do jug band music (or, really, what jug band music sounds like!) or if they just liked the name!

    Re: Strap backwards on botton

You can also buy a rubber grommet a little larger than the ones you are using as silencers between your strings, and slide it on the endpin after you put on your strap. A friend did this to mine,...
