    Re: Trouble with Chords

Lately I have been reading chord charts with some I am unfamiliar with such as; A2sus, G2, Bb2. What do the numerals indicate? I have seen them as high as 6, 9.

    Re: Crosspicking

Like yourself, I play mandolin in church, and have used cross-picking on rare occasions. We are probably wise in not overdoing it, although it was well-received by a few folks who really do listen. I...

    Re: 2020 NAMM Show Report

At first glance, it made me think it could have been inspired by the Vern Brekke bridge. It was original on Weber mandolins and I still have one on my '99 Beartooth and 1992 Flatiron F Artist.

    Re: Weber, the best years.

For what it is worth, my maple 1999 Weber Beartooth was the first decent mandolin I have owned. It was built in Belgrade, Montana and signed by Bruce Weber. This mandolin is superb in every regard...

    Re: Preferred Polish

Received the David Harvey Jubilee polish from friend Steve Smith and it does a fine job on my lacquered mandolins! Thanks for your suggestions.

    Re: Mandolins with darker tones.

I understand that the oval hole Weber mandolins are the only ones now x-braced. I have used the original Brekke bridge on three mandolins to reduce brightness. I assume it is the additional mass of...

    Re: Preferred Polish

Thanks, George, It is for my '99 Weber Beartooth and '92 Flatiron F5 Artist; both still going strong! For scratches, I use a "kit" brand product, Scratch Out, which does well. I don't use anything...

    Preferred Polish

I have been using 3M Imperial Hand Glaze (show car finish), but am open to suggestions for a better polish.

It is from a performance pamphlet, Jim. I will see if a pal can enlarge it some.

    Re: Seeking a Darker Sound

Certainly an X-braced mandolin is a good start. I have used the Brekke bridge from STE (Weber) on a Kentucky KM-250 to good advantage in obtaining more tonal character (even with tone bars). A...

    Re: CMA Awards Show Tonight

Bill, you are seeing more mandolins as well as 5-string banjos in some of the "country" bands. What I do notice is that the musicians holding these instruments are not necessarily "pickers".

Re: Steve Martin's Lloyd Loar F5

I don't understand why folks leave clip-on tuners attached to their headstock, any more than those who love to park capos there (on guitars). I guess they saw some "star" do it on TV and feel the...

Re: Good price on '97 Gibson F5-G

As the owner of two Montana-built Flatiron Artists and a Weber Beartooth, I have absolutely no problem with the neck joint design. I'm just prodding those who babble on about their perceived...

Really? I thought they were being built in Nashville by then and the dreaded "bolt-on neck" would have been abandoned.

  18. Re: Recommendation for a 1988 Flatiron A5-Jr neck reset?

I would suggest sending your Flatiron to Sound To Earth (Weber) in Logan, MT as they would probably be more familiar with the instrument.

You signed my 1993 Flatiron A-5 Artist and an additional label was also signed by approximately 15 other craftsmen. Some of the signatures were not legible and Paula Jean helped me with a few of the...

Re: any suggestions on a mando banjo?

All of the mandolin banjos I've owned were purchased on e-Bay. Some were intact, some in various pieces, but all had one thing in common; they were vintage 1920s VEGA. Most were Style K and one, now...
