    Re: Microphone recommendations

KM84 would probably be a pro's first choice. Expensive though. There is the Warm 84, a reasonably priced copy that seems to be in the ballpark. The recordings I have heard do not have hyped top...

Guilty. That's based on the actual new price I paid for my car.

Re: Anybody bought instruments on Reverb?

I have purchased two used instruments and had no issues. I have purchased quite a few odds and ends, also all good transactions, or at least I had very clear and satisfactory communication when...

Re: For the price of a single Harley Davidson...

I've already got the mandolin. I'm saving for the Harley. :) I just did a 2000 mile trip on my "not a Harley".

    Re: Mandola vs. Octave Mandolin

I play both. My mandola is an arch top F hole instrument, and has a beautiful "singing" voice, in the way that a mandolin does. I primarily use it in an acoustic duo with guitar, playing...

Thanks for the link. I caught about 45 minutes, what a great show!
  7. Re: Dunlop Americana picks - am I doing it wrong?

Those mandolin players play a completely different type of instrument than I do and are looking for a different kind of sound.

I have been using the ProPlec 1.5mm for years now, and still think it...

    Re: Best Flat Top Mandolins?

I was just about to type the same thing. I have never played one, but those two pointers make me do the happy dance every time I see one.

    Re: tempo sensor

I have seen pro drummers in concert using hardware devices that display their tempo based on a trigger on a drum, and have wanted something similar for myself. If this software works well it could...

    Re: Martin O17-T?

Enjoy! I have one, and it's a great little instrument. I think I prefer it in CGDA rather than GDAE. Tenor tuning seems to bring out something special, where in octave tuning it sounds more like a...
  14. Re: Tips for making Mandolin sound like Mandocello

uhm, no? A mandola would be in the same tuning an octave higher. You could attempt to put heavy strings on a a mandolin and tune down, but it would likely be a whole lot less than ideal.

    Re: GBOM String Variation

From what I understand this was a short lived experiment on Eli's part. He went back to double strings. It sounds fine, basically like you would expect an archtop guitar to sound. In my opinion...

  20. Re: Question on condenser mics for bluegrass band

I have enjoyed the KSM137s that I use at work more than I expected. They are a reasonably neutral sounding, general purpose small diaphragm condenser. I think I prefer them over my SM81s these...

Re: Mandola or octave mando? MAS dilemma.

I play both, and if I had to only have one I would choose the mandola. It is the perfect instrument to accompany a guitar, and melody playing is so rich and sonorous. Don't get me wrong, the OM is...

  25. Re: 3 Note Chords with 1, 3, & 7 (Omitting the 5)

When it comes to chord construction and voicing, I rank the importance of notes. I may have a different concept than some others but it goes like this:

    In a triad:
    1) The 3rd is the most...
