Great stuff Don!!!!
Can I ask what recording device you used for the Gil? The video is fine, but the sound quality is very good.
Cheers,
Pete
Great stuff Bill! Good to see and hear Ezra. The jam scene here in Salt Lake just hasn't been the same since he moved away. Tell him Pete the lefty says hey :)
Cheers,
Pete
I wasn't able to find any of his CD's in stock, but found him in the downloads section of amazon.

Wondering if anyone has tried to figure this one out on a mandolin. It's some weird C tuning on guitar and I can't seem to sort out even the first few notes.
Any suggestions on where this thing...
I have a DPA 4061 that is super simple to set up and get sounding great. You can simply tape it to the strings between the bridge and the tail piece with it hanging out toward the lower f hole a...
Lucy Farr's
I've never had a problem with tab or chord shapes as a lefty either. In fact I find it really easy to picture a righty in front of me doing the chord I see in the book. My fingers then mirror what...
Interesting results Doug. I have just tried TI mediums on my Vessel/Soltis and it is better than ever across the board.
I have the standard saddle from Cumberland. Everything is still sharp on the...
Here's a sound clip from all my experimenting with recording lately. I'm not much of a player, but this is about as close as I can get to the real tone this thing has.

one of the top
another of the peghead inlay
another of the back
It needed a bit of a fingerboard adjustment and here it is finally all finished.
Here's a cool one from my Soltis Vessel A
Nut to saddle = 13.875"
Nut to 12th = 6.875"
This would suggest that your fingerboard is slotted as a 13.75" scale length per the calculator posted earlier, not 13.875".
I've been trying other...
David it seems you speak in tongues. The only problem being, there doesn't seem to be anyone around who can interpret http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif
David what does your mandolin actually measure from the nut to the 1st, 12th and bridge saddle? What is the actual height from the strings to the 1st, 7th and 12th frets? Give us an actual example...
The slots in the nut are very good. I have a 10x loop so I can look at them very closely. The last contact point of the strings and the nut is right dead on the fingerboard edge of the nut. When the...
Of course if you just play left handed it's not an issue http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Just for reference here's a pic of the nut and action when fretting between the 2nd and 3rd frets. #If you look closely you can see that I have two sheets of paper under the nut in this pic. #These...
I'm using some GHS A250's that are about a week old. The fingerboard is from StewMac. The fingerboard has very little relief.
It seems that all the mando's I've looked at have this same issue....
Thanks Doug! #That's what I was looking for. #
I checked my Weber Absorka and it does the same thing though only about 5 or 6 cents. #The Webers are supposed to be a 14" scale length, but to get...
Thanks sunburst for the link to that thread. Any suggestions as to why the nut would need to be 0.012" - 0.015" closer to the first fret to get good intonation?
Can you measure where the 1st,...
Now I'm really confused. That calculator says for a 14.1" scale length that it should be 7.050" to the 12th fret. My set up is at 6.950" from the nut to the 12th fret and where I get the 12th fret...
