Just don't drive to Weiser with bicycles on the back of your car. Those Idaho State Troopers are funny about that.

I make 2 - 3 trips per month totaling 8 - 12 individual flights and have never had a problem walking on with a mandolin.

I was traveling this week and struck out at three music stores. Hopefully, this will work out better after returning to Seattle.

    Tuning machine parts

    Ack!

Does anyone know of a source of parts for Schaller tuners? One of screws that hold the round gear to the tuning peg loosened and fell off. The gear then dropped along with the metal and...

    Re: Leaning saddle

I agree that many, if not all saddles start to lean under tension. If the saddle and bridge are strong enough as an assembly, the bridge base may also move/tilt just a little bit. When Austin built...

I'm with Pete on this one. After trying several types of strings on my F4 I settled on the Monel (Sam Bush) set. Very sweet.

  16. Re: What other mandolins sound similar to Reischman's Loar?

Good instruments start good and get better. Lesser instruments just don't improve as much or as well.

It's like shoes. Never, ever buy a pair of shoes that aren't comfortable....they never will...

I hope it really happens. We've had tickets to see Haggard twice in the past three years. Both times he has canceled within days of the gig.

    Octave fingering

    All,

I've only had my Octave (Austin Clark) for about 6 months and I love it. I knew from the start that 4 finger mandolin chop chords weren't going to work, so I have a new set of chord forms...

Re: At least once every gig

These questions about instruments are compliments. Would you really rather have folks just ignore you, your instruments and your music?

    Re: 1924 Gibson F2 worth?

Maybe you should be glad he didn't take your offer. Sure, some bad sounding instruments can fixed or"revoiced", but would you buy an uncomforable pair shoes with the hope that might be able to break...

Re: Need help finding an appraiser.

While not worth anywhere close to $50K, it is worth exactly what someone is willing to pay for it. Let your family have it for $10k. You can take a nice vacation and they'll have bargain:)

    Re: Flowerpot, Fern, Fleur-de-lis . . .

    Let's see, I have a Fleur-de-lis, a double flowerpot and fern-ish kind of thing.

I think this one is my favorite. Austin did a great job on this.
