    Re: 2011 Gilchrist Model 5

Beautiful instrument, mandophile! Where can I hear it online?

Regarding this maker,I had x-brace and tone bar Gilchrists from the early '90s;both had Engleman (sp?) tops I think. The x-braced...

What Jim D said, plus Stew-Mac's "Guitar Grease". It has graphite imbedded into some kind of wax. Good stuff.

    Re: Blue chip picks

Regarding the thickness of the Bluechip pick and its ensuing "sucking" of the sound from your mandolin, all I can say is REALLY?

The last time I saw my 60 TAD-3R was at the Allman Brothers "Big...

Got back my TAD60-3R from BC;and, also, a new TAD70-3R. The 70 is great for everything;excels at tremolo.

    Re: Took my ToneGard off!

I have a "Sunrise" and...can't think of the name of the other style(retro?). I had Tony add extra pieces to help keep my belly off the backs.

With some varnish finishes you will get indentations...

    Re: On electric mandolins. again.

rico,I don't think I want to go too light. I am used to J74 or 75. I'm thinking the pickups on the JBovier may give a broader spectrum of sound choices than the Mandobird;I don't know. I'm hoping the...

    Re: On electric mandolins. again.

Sometimes ya just gotta jump in and come to your own conclusions. Education is always expensive if it's good. Worth it.

There's always something new to try on mandolin. I'm looking forward to...

    Re: On electric mandolins. again.

Me not annoyed,Earthling. I am learning from your posts.

I guess by jazz chords I meant diminished,cool-sounding chords that are a little more complicated/interesting(to my mind) than more basic...

    Re: On electric mandolins. again.

My next mando purchase will probably be a 4-string, JBovier EMC(Vintage Cream with maple fretboard).

I have an old Les Paul amp that needs some ON time.

Jazz chords gotta be easier on an...

    Re: Blue chip picks

Jill, you make those triplets look effortless. I think it's a good idea to have a back-up BC. I've bought three of them,so far. Currently have none with which to pick. My old BC(sent in for...

    Re: Blue Chip Pickers

The TAD-3R has become my favorite shape. I have had a 60 for 6-8 months. My weiner-dog puppy got ahold of it and put some minute divots in the surface(really tiny). Also,.the edges, while perfectly...

  25. Re: More Gibson Oval hole buying questions (and Eastman too)

I have kept up with mando prices for about 20 years or so. I have found Elderly's prices to be among the very best/lowest. They won't give you much for your mando;but, they pass along the low prices....
