That's always been my impression too, that the darker sunburst finish was there to cover up flaws in the wood or shoddy workmanship. Certainly not always the case, as there are plenty of amazing...

Yea, I lived two blocks from Old Town School for years and I know many of the folks who work there. Different Strummer is nice, but they mostly cater to Old Town's students, so it's mostly lower end...
