I recently traveled from Montana to Austin, TX, carrying on my violin/mandolin case. I had no troubles. I did purchase a pass to board early so that I could be reassured of being able to place my...
Sorry to beat an already almost dead horse. Here is my question: does anyone have any experience flying (domestic) with a combo fiddle/mandolin case?
I have familiarized myself with the...
I have a Sweet Pea mandolin and I'll tell you why I like it. It's great for airline travel. I can fit it in my backpack and then put my rolling suitcase in the overhead bin. If I was carrying a...
My Fern F5 is named: Vern. Vern the Fern.
My octave arrived the day my cabin burned down, hence she is called "Ashley"

I just measured mine. It's 1 1/8". Not a fat neck at all.

Hi everyone.
Does anyone know if Hans Brentrup is still making mandolins and what his contact info might be. Hoping I can get him to make one for me.
Thanks for the help and thanks to Scott...
I love the old stuff, too. And some of the new stuff I even like but most is not for me.
However.......when bluegrass instruments are used by some of the popular performers, at least a few of...
I'm game. Would love to try em!!
If I could only catch a trout I might try that.
Re: Lizard Spit: I thought that was for losing weight.
Greetings fellow mando-maniacs: just a quick question about cleaning up my mando.
I have a sweet Varnish finish F5 that has lots of smudges on the finish and I'd like to get them off and polish...
Yes, I meant as a third carry-on. Like: roll-aboard suitcase, small backpack, plus mando.
Thanks for all the input!!

OK, I know this subject has been beaten to death, but flying situations have changed.
Namely, now that airlines are charging to check bags, many many people are carrying on a rollaboard bag and...
Thanks, everyone. Very helpful advice. Good to know I'm not the only one.
This is why I love the Mandolin Cafe!!

I have this lovely 1960's Gibson EM 200, but as you can see, one of the tuner buttons is disintegrating. Does anyone have any advice on how to fix this or replace it without involving...
Just want to add my Kudos to Scott for getting these honorable players to comment on this subject. This is what makes the Mandolin Cafe the coolest site on the net!!
I, too, have a Fletcher Brock guitar shaped octave mando. It is a beautiful instrument with lovely sound and action. You couldn't go wrong there.

I am blessed to have one of each....a November, 2000, Derrington MM and a December 2003 (Danny Roberts) varnish fern. To my ears, the varnished fern sounds enormously better than the lacquer ones I...
I love, love, love my Mix A5. Plugs in great and sounds great plugged in or strictly acoustic. I play with a very loud rock band, plugging in is absolutely necessary. Not much mando content, but...
Lucky son!!
I'm available for adoption. Potty trained, too!!:)
Let me just add that when I wen to Gibson OAI in Nashville and tried a handful of lacquer F5 Ferns I found them to be nice but not "oh my god I've gotta have it."
Then I saw one in the corner...
Sure. Never thought I would, but I ended up in this rock band, The Midlife Chryslers. Lots of fun.

While looking up information on Nudie, the "Rodeo Tailor," known for those wild Country and Western suits, this is what I found: his mandolin CD!. No financial interest, just wanting to share...
Great tone. Easy to play. Cool looks. Unique style.
All in all, more mandolin than I'm worthy of, keeps me striving to come up to its level.

Taking my family to Italy for Christmas, where my daughter is in school. We're going to be in Florence, Rome, and Venice.
Any suggestions on cool mandolin shops in these cities?
Prob won't...
