Re: Playing mandolin from muscle memory

This is an interesting topic to me, esp. since seriously injuring my left middle finger extensor tendon and taking two months off from playing. Fascinating to see how parts of a piece have come back...

    Re: Travel tips with Mandolin

I travel with a low cost mandolin and while it's usually possible to bring it as a carry-on, I remove all the stress and put it inside its hard case and then inside a form-fitting checked suitcase...

    Re: Godin A8 Electric/Acoustic Mandolin

Godin A8 has engineered a relatively small neck circumference, although somewhat counter-intuitively
I found the fretboard to be guitar-like and spacious - closer to that of a BL (I've had two)...

    Re: RIP Richie Havens

I'm not familiar with much more than the iconic performance at Woodstock, which will live as long as the media storing it does and well beyond the lives of that generation, which it arguably defined....

    Re: Weber/Bredlove factory.

Sorry I didn't mean to attempt a prediction - I have no idea....but it is one business now with one financial interest.
Does anyone really think that they can sell every product variant in both...

    Re: Weber/Bredlove factory.

    Bruce,
Thanks for the update. It's an ambitious effort to merge the two businesses while maintaining both quality, service and some sense of coherence in the product line(s). While I'm a Breedlove...

Re: Would you go to a Mandolin Cafe Convention ?

Thanks Astro - this is the only way this idea would fly. Every other single location is wrong for everyone not from that locale.

    Re: Whatever happened to Breedlove?

I'm certainly a fan of their playability and quality - that seems universal.
Sound quality is another issue and varies from one instrument to another.
I've got an FF that is about as good as it...

Re: Congrats I guess, but Goat Rodeo ain't folk

My +1 for the Louis Armstrong quote and the comment on 'Classical Crossover'....all the categories are constantly blurring against

Re: looking for mandolin to use backpacking

I use a Floodtone as a traveler. It's lacking a bit on the low end but they're pretty small and can be acquired as inexpensively as a mandolin designed specifically for traveling, so your exposure...

Most of us already have mandolins embedded directly in our brains, although the physical surgery isn't quite perfected yet.

    Re: Breedlove

I think the MC consensus will be that their build quality and (wide nut) playability are strong points. Some folks like their sound and some don't, since it's not a Gibson vintage sound. I'm a fan...

Re: yet another newbie asks "what should I buy"

    Harrison,
With your background I don't think you'll be happy with most of what you can get in the $500-600 range,
esp. an F. For good tones the Mid-Missouri/Big Muddy (A) instruments can be bought...
  18. Re: Weber Fine Acoustic Instruments Joins Two Old Hippies

This merger will likely improve BL's customer service and also add some welcome strength to their mandolin line which IMO is not at its high point re: consistency or completeness (the Premier line). ...

Re: market value of used Collings MT

I'd say roughly $1,600 - $1,800. Below $1,600 and it looks pretty cheap compared to other options, esp. if it's opened up and sounds good. Above $1,800 and it starts approaching retail for a brand...

    Re: Best Mando under $700???

You didn't specify a genre of music which could narrow the field. Among the many Pac Rim products, you'll find The Loar (600s used or 500s new) and comparable Kentucky models get plenty of MC member...

    Re: Don't be a bunch of I-TOLD-YOU-SOs!!! :-)

Y'all seem to have overlooked the dreaded 'dude', esp. as abused by males of all ages.

MAS and GAS are obvious here, but the biggest red flag I see is that cats and guitars outnumber mandos....

    Re: Breedlove FF versatility

Agree with multidon....tone can be expected to vary by instrument of one model. While my new FF can play it all, I prefer its tone for BG more than for Classical and Celtic. It's fairly loud...
