I am a long time Penny pincher myself and go along with Mr Hopkins suggestion of the MXL 990 , I've used them for several years micing a 3 or 4 piece live. Mostly single mic , but sometimes 1 high...

    Re: Under Seat on Plane?

I have flown many times with my mandolin. I travel with an inexpensive instrument, in a cheap superior gig bag. I usually have the body under the seat and the neck sticking between my feet. No...

Re: mixer for three instruments to one amp

I like the Idea of the Morely ABC switch, but a small 4 to 8 channel mixer like Behringer is probably what I would do.

Re: Practicing while using a strap

Mostly practice mandolin with strap and standing. A good strap position is almost as important as a good setup. As for standing , I almost always perform standing and it feels better for me to play...
  7. Re: Given a choice, Tru-Oil or Nitro-Lacquer (satin) for finish.

Though I like the look of a satin finish, I would go TO for ease of repair
  8. Re: Stradolin -- How do I know?? Claiming it is one / False Cl

I got a Strad o Lin much like the more expensive of your choices. Identified here on the cafe as a 1942 model, I had to make a new saddle for mine. Mine is the sweetest sounding Mandolin I have ever...

Re: The Loar losing tune quickly

Here in CO, my mandolin go flat as humidity goes down and sharp as humidity goes up. New strings are a must, then if it continues to go flat, something is coming apart. Either top sink neck set ,...

    Re: Favorite Acoustic Amps?

Kustom PA50 with a Behringer ADI21 is great sounding on it's own , has a hole to mount on a stand and an output for a subwoofer should you need one.

Re: Mic for recording practice tracks, jams, etc.

I feel a Tascam or Zoom mini recorder is the most flexible and useful choice. The built in mics on my DR7 do a fine job of recording band practice and with appropriate placement gets a good balance....

    Re: Cheapest Multi-Track Rrecording

I would go with a Tascam DP 006, battery powered 6 Trac. Wish it had xlr inputs but it seems to allow overdub and run on batteries. You could always use a small mixer to run different microphones...

    Re: Cheapest Multi-Track Rrecording

Nothing I read about the Zoom H1n leads me to believe you can overdub (play one track back while recording another) maybe I am missing something but it seems to be about the same as my tascam DR7...

    Re: Cheapest Multi-Track Rrecording

    Re: Electric Bass

My regular bass player plays a 1970s Gibson fretless studio bass, has a great tone for string band music! Of course the tone is as much in her hands as the bass IMHO
