    A friend of mine has a very early Big Mon that has almost no finish left and a large bass side top crack thru the f hole. It is one of the best sounding mandolins I've ever come across.

    It was a much louder instrument with a neck I liked a bit better. I'm still very tempted to come up with some way to go back to buy it.
