    Re: Method Book Recommendations

I've looked a Mair's book and Horne's "online." I am leaning towards Horne, although Mair's is intriguing. I really have two goals, but one precedes the other. I want to accompany a band as quickly...

Re: First "real" Mandolin on its way!

Got it opened up . . . the mando is different from the pictures . . . but that's okay. The crack is fairly long, but well repaired and not visiable from 5+ feet. Needs tuning, but sounds good to my...

    Method Book Recommendations

I've read a bunch of different threads, and looked at beginning books in my local music store's extremely limited supply, but I'm looking for very specific recommendations, if such a thing exists.

Address issues caused a delay in shipping. They are shipping today . . . will post after I get it.

Is it sick that I look at the pictures three or four times a day?

Re: First "real" Mandolin on its way!

LOL . . . The Lonestar is an oval hole . . . not a Big Muddy by any means, but I really wanted an F-hole instrument.

Re: First "real" Mandolin on its way!

I was debating between the Eastman and the kentucky 150 . . . in the end, the look of the Eastman won the wife over to upgrading the whole instrument with the Eastman.

    I don't like the slick,...

Beautiful. Love the pick guard. Its a piece of art.

But I don't know if its $30,000 pretty.
  16. Re: Left handed guitarist searching for his first mandolin

At the price you are looking for, a-style would offer better value. it costs more $$$ to add the scroll work. An f-style of similar price will probably be laminate and much lower craftsmanship...
  17. Re: Left handed guitarist searching for his first mandolin

The MM100sb/e has laminate back and sides . . . generally you'll want to avoid that. Add to that it is an f-style with electronics for less than $400, and I've got to think there are some corners...
  18. Re: Left handed guitarist searching for his first mandolin

    More information will be needed.

What is "a reasonable price range?"
What style of music are you looking to play?

Re: Punch Brothers: Who's Feeling Young Now

I will say this . . . if Thile's lyrics are even halfway autobiographical, he's a misogynistic egomaniac rivaling John Mayer. His views of women are pathetic.

    But catchy!

    Re: Beginner/value Mandolin

Adjust the bridge and nut for playable action. Adjusting the bridge for proper intonation. Manicuring the frets to eliminate buzz. There is probably more, but the point is that most mandolins,...
