    Butterflies singing
    Nature's exquisite song,
    I listen softly.
  3. Re: Making the jump from bluegrass mandolin to bluegrass fiddle.

The fiddle is all about the bow, and has nothing to do with the mandolin. I've been taking fiddle lessons, and my German Shepherd hates it. He'll come up from behind me while I'm practicing and...

    Re: Hobbies

Out of my five motorcycles, my 1973 850 Eldorado was my favorite - beautiful, fast, dependable, smooth - loved it! But my first was a 1972 175 BSA Bantam I bought in London & toured England, Wales,...

    Re: Hobbies

Love to fly my little airplane (2-seater) and gliders, short-track speedskating, quilting, knitting, reading, walking my dog every day through the park, also play Irish tenor banjo and taking fiddle...

    Re: mandolin and fiddle destroyed

Maybe it's as simple as this: If you're playing an instrument, you're not studying the bible, or praying, or working (work, as in making a living and providing for your family).

    "Certain Orthodox...

Re: What do you play when you want to impress?

I don't really play well enough to impress anyone, but I found that people like anything I can play cleanly. Not necessarily fast, but clean.

My friends are very kind to me.

    Re: Road Trip to Lansing

I love going to Elderly's, but I spend most of the day going up to Lansing. There's a quilt store not far from Elderly's, so I go there first, lunch nearby, then spend a leisurely afternoon picking...
  11. Re: Weber Custom Vintage A versus Old Gibsons and other archtop o

I've got a Weber Bridger A, which is also carved top, but I'm not sure how similar it is to the CVA. I love it! It's got a full, sweet sound, easy to play, and it cured my MAS (no kidding!).

    Autumn's passing song.

I started to "Thank you" for all the haikus, but I like them all! Love this thread, thanks for keeping it going!

Re: Can a non-musician learn to play?

Yes, you can do it. I'm a non-musician, yet learned to play the mandolin and tenor banjo, and soon to learn the fiddle (all Irish trad). It's mechanical at first, but then as you get comfortable...

    Re: Who likes exercises?

IM(very)HO, you don't need to know scales to play tunes. You need to know what's sharp or flat, but that's just simple fingering. I can read music, I know scales, but I don't think about "this tune...

Thanks for the advice, Steve. Listening to the tunes over & over will make learning to play the tune easier. I had tried recording at a session, but didn't always get the name of the tune, or it...

Re: Have you found that mystical mando yet?

I love the sweet, mellow sound of my 1998 Weber Bridger A, and it blends in so nicely when I'm playing at a session. I bought it from the classifieds here - one look at the picture and I knew it was...
