Yes please, I hope that they travel well to the UK :-))
Thanks Scott !
I'm interested in exploring the current offer. Is there a list of the lessons available somewhere that can be seen prior to joining ?
I can see the sample lessons but not the full list. I'm not...
Happy Birthday Sam - Huge thanks for the endless gifts of music, tuition material and inspiration !
Any planned visits to the UK coming up ? We'll bake you a cake :-)
Hey John, that's an idea - have the audience buying raffle tickets (for less money than the cost of the album) on the understanding that we will give away CDs to the value of what's in the pot at the...
I agree we need someone to be able to sell while we're playing - we haven't had the luxury of that so far.
Does it work if that person goes around the audience instead of just sitting with the CDs...
Anyone have views on the best way to sell your band CDs at a gig ?
We've just finished our first CD and did the usual 'call out' before the break and at the end of the gig but has anyone found a...
For us Brits, this is also available on iPlayer.
Hi Jonz,
I have the excellent Mandolinist's Guide to Bluegrass Improvisation and use it a lot. There are many great licks included but I was looking for help on improvising songs at jams that I may...
I was lucky enough to see Chris at his London gig recently and was in constant amazement at how absolutely fantastic he is. I haven't seen anyone play any instrument that well.
I really enjoyed...
I'm undecided about getting this, anyone else got thoughts on the DVD ?
How useable is the content for Bluegrass improvisation ?
RayMan7 - You can never have enough Ray's playing mando :-)) Slightly off topic but, out of interest, the 7 at the end of my user name relates to my Lotus (Caterham) 7
Ray isn't a common name...
Cornwall festival was excellent, it goes from strength to strength.
The stand out for me was the Thunderbridge guys, they were on great form.
There is a rumour that Chris Thile and Sam Bush...
This one's for the Brits !
Went to the Cornish Bluegrass festival recently and met up with Phil at his display area. Got him to have a look at my Weber and, even though Phil doesn't do repairs,...
I think JPJ was in the audience at the Borderline as apparently were the Mumfords - astonishingly good gig :-))))
Hopefully, one day, we'll convince Chris to play at a UK festival.
Just to follow up on this thread. I tried J73s and found them to be lacking in both tone and volume. I also thought that the chop sounded too weak.
After less that a month I have taken them off...
The 'pond' is indeed a MAS inhibitor :-))
Thanks for the info on Merlefest, any thoughts on Telluride ? I've called Alpine Lodging, are there other options ?
A group of us are thinking about coming over from the UK to either the Merlefest or Telluride festivals next year. Can anyone recommend motel style lodging for those festivals ?
I've checked...
I find that the height of the bridge makes a huge difference on my Weber. I like a low action but have got used to a higher setting for the pay off I get in tone and volume. Low is great for home...
We recently got Treme in the UK on Sky Atlantic and I love it.
Have they made a second series ?
" Perhaps a double-check of the set up is in order?? "
Funny you should say that Tim - The J73's would be for my Weber and I think I do need a truss rod tweek as there's a bit of relief in the...
"a bit gentler on 80-90 year old wood and glue joints" - and presumably fingers :-)
I have a solid Mandocaster with 10, 15, 24 and 40 strings and I find it easier on the fingers - As Tim alluded,...
I usually use D'Addario J74s and have tried J75s but wondered about the lighter J73 set.
Being lighter, do they increase playability ?
Easier to fret chop chords ?
Any reduced tone / volume...
This is just excellent. Great album, great feel, outstanding pickin' and vocals.
I really hope Chris and Michael come over to the UK sometime soon.
