Looks Asian to me, along with the zero fret.
You win, I will keep it original, sort of. I may change the tuners, I have a vintage set with round top posts, slightly older, smoother running, and prettier.
All solid, it had a nice deep tone.
Lot of old mandolins have the tail block bulging out from the top, or bottom, or both. On this one I'm pressing in the sides and tail block back in line with the back.
Thanks for that Mike, I always thought they were sucked up by Harmony.
I rebuilt a big Kay guitar several years ago and "the tallest man on earth" bought it from Retro Fret in New York.
...
Thanks! I rarely buy instruments to repair and resell, but mandolins don't take up too much room in the shop, and I have had good reception for older Kay instruments, as compared to Harmony or other...

Yes, fairly clean, it came in the original pasteboard case. The frets are worn out, so it must have been a good sounding "player". I'll pull and reset the neck, so I'll be using my own, "hand...
So the back at the tail needs attention, as almost every cheap Mando of this age. Turn away if wacky schemes for gluing hurt your eyes.

So I paid the man, and I have another project. Everything is present and accounted for. Neck will be reset and new frets, and probably a new fretboard.
I may sell off the cloud tailpiece, it is in...
Headstock is a concave curve across the top with rounded corners.
Title says it all. $50. Local to me.

If you get the mandolin properly set up, all your dreams will come true.
Dragon Plate still has the best price for carbon fiber rods, but if you only need a little bit, that resource is great.
Hi Joe. Of course it sounded great! A Size-1 guitar hits the sweet spot for Parlor guitars, Carpathian Spruce is a very light and resonant wood, the Sweet Gum was very resonant in itself. It sold...
Yep, if you read the linked thread about Sweet Gum, you'll see the guitar I built, back & sides, of Sweet Gum.
I would say, if the wood is like mine was, it is "stripey pretty" and a exact drop-in...
Bluestown L-0 neck glued. Getting close!

I would like to change the title of this thread to "The Brilliance of Stradivari Violin Might Rest with the maker, Antonio Stradivarius"
Why is it so hard for the "world" to understand that the...
A luthier may charge his shop minimum, $60 in mine, to slot your nut. That's a bit less than a decent set of nut files. If a luthier goes too deep, he'll make a new nut, if you go too deep...
As a guitar and violin repairman, when a person brings in a violin and wants it fixed so he can sell it, there is the question "can you add $250 or more to the selling price?" Otherwise you will lose...
I haven't read all the words that have come before, and I don't know what the word "sustainable" means this week.
What I know personally is I can go to any place that sells wood and get enough to...
Well, it's what's on my bench...

I love it, something that I, and ( I'll bet ) every builder would say: "we're just as happy when no special orders appear in the daily mail".
Hi, thanks for your kind words.
It was just an experiment, because I can.
The wood was a very old board that was salvage, tight grain and fairly heavy for Doug Fir. I left it about .130" on the...
It "came out" awesome!
