Anyone confirm if this is a legit OM? (eBay)

So I am a very long time Ovation guitar owner, and if this is a copy it looks like quite a good one....my Celebrity guitar model has the same odd leaf holes. Not sure why the seller wouldn't mention it by name if it's an Ovation, and the pictures don't show the headstock well enough. Can anyone tell me if Ovation has made an octave mandolin and if it's worth looking at? I was gonna go with a Trinity College from a reputable dealer for setup, but funds aren't what I'd like, and this seems like a low-cost possibility. But we get what we pay for usually, don't we?

Should've done a little homework first maybe.....is this it?

Ovation website says it's a "mandocello", which I thought was different than an octave mandolin.....this instrument's scale length is certainly longer. And though its named a mandocello (cello being CGDA), it says it is tuned an octave lower than a mandolin which would be GDAE. Count me confused....color scheme also different from eBay to Ovation site.

The equal space between individual strings suggests that it is an eight-string guitar.

A mandocello or an octave mandolin has four courses of paired strings, with greater space between the courses than the pairs.

My guess is that it is a poor imitation of an Ovation instrument.
I would not consider buying it.

Missed that it was a "Maestro" not an Ovation....never heard of it. Wanting an OM rather than a mandocello, so this doesn't look like a go.....search for Ovation MC868's on this site yield decent reviews though.

Thanks Jacob. Found this old thread regarding this thing, interest is officially dead. :)

Yeah, leave that puppy alone. Hunk of junk.
The Ovation mandocello is a worthy instrument. This is not.
