Making your own mandolin using a "Mandolin Kit"
Greetings all....I am curious how many of you have built your own mandolins using a "pre-packaged" mandolin making kit (i.e. not luthier quality from scratch)??? I have been pondering buying a kit and building a mandolin just for the fun of doing it. What has been your experience using a kit??? I see several out there on the market for $250.00-$400.00.
Any thoughts???
Peace,
Jim

Go for it !!!!! I caught the bug in 95' with a Martin D-18 kit, next year an F-5 from scratch (should've gone A), now I'm up to 32 instrument & many re-builds / conversions. Apprentice with a good luthier (class setting) if possible, tons of great resources here however. Careful or you'll find yourself building more than your playing !!

Start here. there have been a number of Cafe folks that have built these.
