Thinking about buying a Schwab.
Hi Everyone, I recently got the opportunity to play a Washburn solid body electric mandolin and I loved it and have been looking for a solid body electric mandolin every since. I went and played a Schwab today, supposedly this was a return from Micheal Lampert and is a shorter neck (the way it was explained to me I that it was like taking the first fret out but still plays e a d g) I really like the sound but man is this thing pricey at $1800.00 with no case. Any input would be appreciated and I have also attached a picture. Thanks in advance!

Competitive quality can be had from J. L. Smith. I am personally familiar with Steve Ryder, whose pickups I especially admire. A Ryder solid body with two pickups would run rather less. His basic models start at around $900.

Thanks for the response! Those look like some great mandolins. I should also mention that I mainly play jazz so I'm looking for that tone.
Re: Thinking about buying a Schwab.
Andrew Hendryx of Yarn did a jazz CD using a semi-hollow Ryder that is the L5 Gibson look. Mrmando's review is here:

Thanks for all the info. I sent them an email, so we'll see where it goes from there!

Any other recommendations anyone? Thanks in Advance.

Fan fret 5 string mandolins... example:, http://www.novaxguitars.com/
With the longer scale and the low C has better tension..
Shorter scale and the E is not too tight.

Here's a jazz tune on one of mine. The pickup is an Almuse humbucker. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEgAhPLgUYY

Thank you. Enjoyed your version very much.

Making another neck* for a Godin A8, Or just doing a simpler conversion;
changing the 4, 2 notch RMC piezos, to 4 single notch, and a 4 notch nut.
seems practical .
(i had a Magnetic pickup 4 string dual source converted, with 4 RMC bridge piece piezos)
Also had and sold a Godin A8, when band gig justification for needing it, vaporized.
* given Neck is a bolt on ...
