I got it in my head this year to bake up a batch of sugar cookies shaped like F style mandolins. (Nothing more dangerous than a man that gets something into his head.)
Anyone know where I could find F style mandolin cookie cutters?

This is supposedly a mandolin, but it looks like you might be able to reshape it to make it more resemble an A-style with a funky headstock...
funky indeed
You know what would be cool, is a cookie cutter shaped like the classic F style peg head.
I don't know, Gibson might cry foul if an F-style shaped cookie cutter imposed on their copyrights. http://www.mandolincafe.net/iB_html/...ons/tounge.gif
The idea of a cookie cutter says Pac Rim to me! An F5 cookie would be hand cut.
Thats good for a laugh.
Jim
Thats good
Find a coppersmith or tinsmith. There was one in Indiana named Michael Bonne, but he has moved to Florida and doesn't have his new website up and going yet. He made custom cookie cutters.
suppose you could get some tin and some tinsips and some stuff to bend said tin around and make one yourself. somehow i never really thought of that after 35 years of heavy cookie consumption. jeffd, since you're already dangerous some tinsnips really wouldn't make any difference.

Well if I get so ambitious I will for sure post a picture or two of the results.
Did you ever end up doing this?
[making cookies today, and am looking at the 6-string mold with a mean look in my eye ... a couple bends and it could be an A-style, I'm thinking]
Well I tried, but the result would win an award for the most awful scroll of 2006.
About what I figured my amazing skills would achieve :)
My friend Danny Carnahan wanted an aardvark-shaped cookie cutter so he could share that traditional aardvark-cookie cheer, and he got a dandy one custom made from his drawn outline at a local sheetmetal shop. If they can handle an aardvark, they can handle an F-5, although if you want any definition in that scroll, you'd better go for a jumbo-sized cookie template.
Looking forward to nibbling a few of those cookies soon.
I suppose an F-style mando cookie cutter will be twice as expensive as an A-style.
Do you prefer nitrocellulose icing?
Somebody has to ask. :))
I still think it could be done. If some builder out there has an accurate F5 peg head sillhouette, someone with less thumbs than me could fashion a cookie cutter pretty accurately, I would think.
Then with the icing one could put on the cookies - torch and wire icing, flower pot icing. "The Cookie" written across the top.
This could become a "mandolin cafe" holiday offering.
Or not.
Naw, F-style is the mojo oreo.
Youse guys are just too silly! :))
That is one horribly misshapen cookie cutter. Even uglier than a Pac-Rim. You should be able to whip up something better yourself. To that end, here is a picture of Big Mon's headstock faceplate, already broken (might as well bake them that way; that little scroll will break off as quickly as a 32nd note anyway). Trace it onto a block of wood, cut out the jig, bend tin or copper sheeting around it - there ya go! Then finally you will be able to realize your four-year-old dream! :mandosmiley:
BTW, Jeff - I thought you were a devout A style player. I'm confused ...
Excuses, excuses! Some people have been waiting four years for you to figure this out. Sketch in that scroll if you must - it's just going break off. But come on, now. It's getting to be cookie season ...
