Biography:

I grew up at the Jersey Shore, Atlantic City, and saw many wonderful groups there; Beatles, Ray Charles, Rolling Stones, Byrds, Ricky Nelson. Conway Twitty, Beach Boys. I learned to play the guitar in 1960, when I was ten, and started playing harmonica in 1968. I met a tenor guitar player from Philadelphia around 1970 which greatly sparked my interest. I bought a tenor banjo for $50 and a tenor banjo chord book. I adapted those forms to the mandolin and tenor guitar. In layer years, 1980, my wife had a mandolin purchased at a yard sale. I wrote a few songs on it and loved the sound. In 1999 I started The Tenor Guitar Registry and bought my first tenor guitar. I tuned one of my tenors GDAE and the others CGDA. I've written over 300 songs and instrumentals using different combinations of the instruments I own, including ukuleles. I have respect for all types of music and all kinds of musicians. The mandolin is so closely related to the tenor guitar. I believe many mandolin players will pick up a tenor guitar to add to the tonal colors of their playing. I learned a lot of chords from the mandocafe site and use them on tenor guitar.
