About Jerry Turberville
- Biography:
- I'm returning to playing after a long hietus (14 years). Stuff happens in life that changes your direction, and that's about all I can say. I studied violin in elementary and middle school. I decided I want to play some western swing and took lessons at Tiny Moore music from Olen Dillingham. Since there were few fiddle players at that time I was lucky enough to join a band and spent most of the 80's playing clubs and learning a lot. The 90's brought a lot of change. I spent 3 years as a performance major at CSUS (double bass) until some personal issues forced me to quit. It was tough to work fulltime, study, practice, and have any kind of family life.
Now, I'm getting ready to retire and move back to California. I enjoy all types of music, but if you absolutely have to categorize I'd have to be labeled as "experimental musician." I like the way Joe Craven labels his music "free form folk," but didn't want to try to use that one. I expect to be settled in my new digs by the end of summer 2011. Then I'll have time to record some of my feeble attempts at music and post them.
