I love my Eastman 505, for a basic, relatively inexpensive instrument you cannot beat it for clarity of tone. I am looking at purchasing another, because I really want an F-Style and possibly another Fiddle. I can't make up my mind what manufacture though, I really would like a Weber, but there is also an Eastman I am fond of, beating myself up on the choice.
The only issue I have with the Eastman is that within weeks of purchasing the 505 the finish around the bottom F Hole began to chip off slightly just around the cut at the end of hole. It was clear on examination this occurred because of inadequate finish into the cut. Eastman has a great warranty, and talking to the factory Rep, they would fix this for me. Problem: I would have to send it into the Factory. I would not see my beloved Mandolin for an extended period of time. Unthinkable, can't go that long without it. Still love the instrument despite this flaw.
