This is my excursion into contradance. I heard this mp3 of Contratopia here on the Cafe and adopted the first two tunes of the set. Thanks to Marcelyn's tutorial, I was able to write them down in ABC: X: 1 T: Loaves and Fishes M: 4/4 L: 1/4 R: contradance K: Dmaj |A,|:DDFG|A/2B/2A/2G/Fd|B>dA>d|B>dA2| |DDFG|A/2B/2A/2G/FF/2G/2|ADF/2E/2D/2C/2|D4:| |BB/2c/2d/2c/B|AdFA|BB/2c/2d/2c/B|A4| |BB/2c/2d/2c/B|AdFF/2G/2|ADF/2E/2D/2C/2|D4:|| X: 1 T: Too Many Goats M: 4/4 L: 1/4 R: contradance K: Dmixolydian |A/2c/2|dcA/2G/2F/2G/2|ADCD|ADCD|F/2G/2A/2B/2AA/2c/2| |dcA/2G/2F/2G/2|ADCD|AGF/2D/2C|D3:| K: Ddorian |D/2E/2|FFA/2G/2F|Ecc2|FFA/2G/2F|ECC2| |FFA/2G/2F|GGA/2B/2c|dcA/2G/2^F|D3:|| Note the change of key in the middle of Too Many Goats. I suspect I enjoy these so much because they offer such a nice variety of modal scales over D.
Great stuff Bertram, love the second part. I think it is something for me to work on......
Thanks Tosh, the second tune is the harmonically more interesting one. However, I think the first one might be an opportunity for the cross-tuning friends amongst us (Mandola tuned DADA would be ideal, or a mandocello at that...)?
Where's Marcelyn's Tutorial? I struggle with my ABC's...
Here is the tutorial Eddie: http://musicalinstruments.suite101.c...e-abc-notation
Danke, Herr Bertram. I am now an expert in ABC... (x: the unknown quantity, and spurt: a drip under pressure)
