[I got the name of the first tune wrong in the title: it's "Harper's Frolic", not "Delight"] These are two 18th century country dances in 2/4 time, played on mandolin with tenor guitar backing. They are often played as polkas in sessions now, but actually pre-date the arrival of the polka in Britain. "Harper's Frolic" is from "Compleat Collection of 200 Favourite Country Dances vol. 3" (1773), and "My Love Is But A Lassie Yet" first appeared in print in Bremner's Scots Reels of 1757 as "Miss Farqharson's Reel." It is now mainly known as the tune to the Robert Burns song with that title. Fine rendition, Martin. Robert Burns has preserved so many old Scots tunes by using them to create so many of his songs.
Here is an updated recording of "My Love She's But A Lassie Yet", this time played more like a reel in tempo and phrasing. I'm playing the tune twice through, switching the accompaniment to double time for the repeat.
