This week's winner is Keep on the Sunny Side.... How handy, here's a you tube tutorial! David Letterman just retired, and I know I'm going to have serious withdrawals! Here's a recent clip from his show! Here's notation on abcnotation.com from John Chambers collection
Something a little different. Edit. Sorry. It was so different it was the wrong song.
Here's a mandolin tab for the basic melody in C http://jaybuckey.com/pdf/Free%20Tabl...e_mandolin.pdf The Carter Family A nice mando break
I learned this song from Dan Levenson's "Gospel tunes for Clawhammer Banjo". "Das Buch mit der Holzkirche" (the book with the wooden church), as my family likes to call it, has inspired me more than once to create arrangements for guitar, banjo and mandolin.
Great harmony and mandolin break! And of course, I love the banjo.
Nicely played crisscross (on all the instruments!)
Well done Criss !!
Thanks Marcelyn, Michael and woodenfingers!
Great production job there Criss. Here's a more bare bones version from me played on my new (to me) 20 yr old Flatiron Festival A:
Now that's a real good sounding mandolin. Nice bunch of breaks to Keep On The Sunny Side too!
Very nice Shaun and CrissC. Liked your backup singers Criss. Another really nice mandolin David. If I knew what I do now, when I started I would have looked for a nice Flatiron. Oh Yeah, I really enjoyed your take on KotSS too. Lots of good stuff to steal. Gary
Thanks very much guys!
WOW! Really grassy sounds coming from your Flatiron! Nicely played, real authentic stuff!
It was kinda funny to open this thread and see myself! Nice playing gentlemen. Loved the tone OS gets out of that Flatiron!
I am ready to break the ice. "Keep on the Sunny Side" is in my bluegrass repertoire on the guitar, although I discovered I have corrupted the melody a bit over the years. Four weeks ago I purchased a mandolin and I have taken a single lesson. (not counting many freebies on the internet. Here is my first video My lovely wife, Judy, handled the video camera and queued the "Band-in-a-Box" quintet.
Enjoy! I haven't had much time yet to listen to your versions, but I will!
Threw this together between the myriad of things to do. Tried to integrate some cross picking. Not completely happy with it but it will have to do.
Nice!
That sounds great, Tim! I love your playing!
