Another English country dance tune from Playford's Dancing Master of 1651. This one has a very hummable tune. Four-part harmony arrangement found here (along with a hundred or so other Playford tunes): Link to PDF sheet music Played on two mandolins (Ceccherini bowlback and Mid-Mo) and tenor guitar. Martin
These English dances make me suspect that Greensleeves is not such a special piece of music after all - there seem to be thousands of them, all sharing a common rhythm and chord progression. Very well done Martin, I can almost hear those Tudor garments rustling with Tudor mold spores and see those Tudor daggers flashing behind creaking Tudor doors...
.......and now for something completely different! I started playing around with the melody for this tune and it morphed into this. Sorry Martin I know it doesn't sound very English.
Very nice Martin. I must have missed this the first time. David. Yours is a bit more modern. Perfect for a movie score or English serial. I like both versions. It is already stuck in my head. So, I may be doomed to making the third version. Gary
