I was scanning through the list of tunes on the Jay Buckey website. I came across Ash Grove. I fell in love with thos song almost immediately. I added the link of the MP3 and the tab down below. I have been playing around with it. I am finding it to be a tough one. What do you think of the tune? http://jaybuckey.com/mp3/Free%20mp3/...y%20Buckey.mp3 http://jaybuckey.com/pdf/Free%20Tabl...e_mandolin.pdf
That tune has a very nice melody doesn't it? If you don't mind Jake, I think I'll work on that along with you. I was on the JayBuckey site this morning looking around....he has half a dozen songs there that I'd like to work on. Maybe we should choose one of those for next month's tune. It's a thought. He has very nice tablature and I love his mp3s and the tabs for all the different instruments.
Nice tune. About 120 bpm? I have printed it off and will be playing around with it too. Another waltz.
Really nice. July tune?
The melody is what caught my ear. I looked up some history on the song and it's a Welsh folk song. It dates back to the 1700's. Wow! I've played guitar with lots of fiddle players and I don't recall ever hearing this before now. I'm glad you guys are going to be working on this one with me. We got lot's to learn this month 3 waltz's.
It's also found new life as a church hymn melody.
I read that as well JH. It has quite a long history. I think it said the melody was also used as a Christmas song at one point as well. A very versitle song. I could play a whole set of songs and just use one melody. How convenient that would be. Even I can memorize one song! Ha Ha!
The first time I heard this mp3, I knew it was going to be one of the very first songs I learned on my new mandolin. I got it yesterday morning at 11:30am - today, as of about 7:30pm, I can play most of it, almost up to speed, but still get a little stuck here and there. It's such a lovely song that it's a joy to practice it...it just gets prettier every time and it's a great introduction for someone like me who is new to the mandolin. I'm having such a great time with this song...thank you so much for posting this, jake
Looks like I'm a tad late to the party. I printed this one out not long ago but havnt touched yet sadly. So I too will join in on the fun 8]
Never to late for this party. The doors never close. So belly up to the bar and order a round of Ash Grove. It's your turn to buy!
