2015 5th Annual Richter Mandolin Camp for the Rest of Us

Jim Richter, Kimble Mandolins and Grant Street Inn present the 2015 Jim Richter Mandolin Camp for the Rest of Us, July 29 through August 1, 2015 at the historic Grant Street Inn in Bloomington, Indiana.
The Mandolin Camp for the Rest of Us camp, now in its fifth year, focuses on rock and blues styles as well a unique educational approach. Besides rock and blues mandolin styles, this camp focuses on deconstructing the barriers that keep each of us from being the most creative and productive on our mandolins. The camp does not subscribe to beginner-intermediate-expert labeling (especially self-labeling) as it undervalues or devalues the mandolinist. Creativity and ability are both spectrum-based, free of arbitrary demarcations and competition.
This year’s guest instructor is the acclaimed Will Patton, whose expertise in jazz, choro, and gypsy jazz are but a fraction of a musical career that spans rock, old-time, folk, composition, and session work. Everyone involved in camp this year is very excited to have Will join.
There will be concurrently held special topic classes on blues, choro, jazz standards, and others determined by suggestions from a survey of registered attendees. Twenty minutes of individual instruction is now a standard part of the camp.
A faculty concert will be held during one of the latter evenings of camp. Jim Richter will again be joined by blues guitarist and former Yank Rachell band member Gordon Bonham.
This year’s camp is intended to be the last before indefinite hiatus. Jim’s doctoral studies will soon require significantly more time due to dissertation.
Many spots to this year’s camp have been reserved by prior attendees. Few spots remain so please enroll early.
