Music is supposed to be fun and easy to learn. Choro, the musical form from Brazil, is one of the most uplifting forms in the entire world. This no-stress workshop with Ricky Gene is designed for beginning to intermediate mandolin players new to choro. He will cover strumming techniques for Brazilian rhythms, common chord progressions, and melody playing, and will teach several popular choro tunes. Learn to use the Harmony Tree method, a listening/perception tool created in Brazil that will unlock the secrets of choro. We will analyze and perform several famous choro compositions, studying ensemble playing, harmony, and counter-point. Explore jazz/Brazilian choro chords for the mandolin, with an emphasis on hearing and creating your own unique voicings. For beginning to advanced mandolin players familiar with choro, or students who have attended Part 1.
