The Travelin' McCourys blend the best of the Appalachian tradition with the improvisational magic of jazz. Unique live collaborations are the hallmark of their performances, and their unique sound is coming to Raleigh on Friday, November 13 as part of the PineCone's Down Home Concert Series.
The McCoury brothers are the sons of bluegrass legend Del McCoury and outstanding musicians in their own right. Collectively, the band has won more than 40 awards from the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA), including nine for Entertainer of the Year (2004, 2003, 2002, 2000, 1999, 1998, 1997, 1996, 1994), two for Instrumental Group of the Year (1997, 1996), Recorded Event of the Year (1991), Instrumental Album of the Year (1996), Album of the Year (2004 - It's Just the Night, 1994 - A Deeper Shade of Blue), and Song of the Year for "1952 Vincent Black Lightning" (2002). Ron McCoury has been named the IBMA's Mandolin Player of the Year eight times; Carter has won honors as the IBMA's Fiddle Player of the Year three times.
